Yeah honestly. I've been using a RAT a lot more lately now.
Goosed with 3 ODs and with an MXR 6 band at the end of chain to shape the end of the signal. It's fucking amazing. Using a FATRAT in this case.
Into my AC15C1, Lynx 50 or Princeton Reverb with a 12 it's just a beast
The Lynx and AC15 use V30s and the Princeton a P12Q Alnico.

Sounds like crap at low volume, solo home playing. All ear-piercing mids...
Kills in a mix.
Much like a cranked Marshall 1974 or Plexi, Vox AC30, Fender Deluxe Reverb or Bassman...
Things that hurt at home, own in a mix.
The best sound you ever had with a band sounds horrible at home.
At least that's why I don't use a Rat.

That attack...... Honestly sick amp or not..... It's hard to beat the attack on a RAT and the ugly/dirty/disgusting tone it brings in a good way.
Its just great and really gives the right amount of sag when dialed in right

This is so true, thats why I just grabbed a basic drum track off youtube, it just doesnt seem to make sense otherwise.

Yeah, its that little bit of sag....you dont really get it from other OD pedals, and it kind of determines the way you play. I used to use a RAT and then something else for brighter tones, but now Im just sticking to the RAT because everything else feels different, and it makes you play different. Honestly short of a good Fuzz Face it really does behave like a mini amp in that way regarding sag.
And they clean up rather surprisingly well in the range of gain and breakup. Cant go wrong with goosing it with an OD or two or in my case three. More for shaping further and sculpting aside from cascading and adding extra gain stages.
Definitely recommend a solid EQ at the end of it or the dirt chain to get back sound that may be lost from tone suck and further shape tone but otherwise it's just solid like a rock
Cant go wrong with a RAT2, Turbo RAT, FATRAT, SOLO RAT etc etc. They are just great
