Hey guys,

So my band has done two gigs at the same venue where I took a different rig, I wanted to share & since I know everyone hears things differently ask what tone you guys thought sat better. Of course I have my opinions! This is a good test because the basic setup is the same- Venue, same song, both used an ESP Hanny, same FOH guy, same wife recording from the front row. What's different (other than the Coli show being tuned a half step lower to help the vox out) is the amp & cab. So, what setup do you think sits better in our mix & why?

Mark IIB+ KRG w/ Mesa straight trad 4x12-

Triple Rectifier rev G w/ Mesa Standard slant 4x12 cab-

Both sound pretty similar but the Coli is dialed a little brighter so it gets the edge.
Both are very good though!

I prefer the higher mid presence and the higher tuning for a punk tune like that. The Coli would be more crushing for a heavier, more chugging tune. You should probably just take both out with you to cover all grounds.

I thought the coli sounded better there. It sounded tighter, punchier, more direct, clearer, more defined and brighter. The Triple sounded spongier, blurrier, but had more growl or hair as Recto’s do, which I like. Maybe if you used a Rev F or earlier model I could’ve potentially liked the Recto more or maybe if that triple G was boosted

If I were playing that stuff (based on that little snippet I heard) some other amps I’d also consider would be my Naylor, Wizard or Blueface

While I think it’s hard to tell from a video, I’m gonna go against the grain here and say recto. If you are always a one guitar band, you can get away with much more as far as tonality than you could with another guitarist of course. I’d pick the recto all day for this, in a one guitar band anyways. It’s just more pleasing when there’s only one, to me anyways. If there was two, obviously one of each would be the way to go.

I don’t like bright amps so the Recto takes it for me, and gives the tune a darker vibe.
