For the ones that have the same set up, what is the correct way of connecting a G Major and GCP to my Herbert (001/1368 which should be October 2009)? I have never used midi before so am new at this. Hope I don't have any chip issues. Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Take a long enough midi cable and connect the ground control to Herberts midi in, then take another midi cable and connect Herberts midi through to the midi in of the g-major. If you're not sure which of Herberts loops would be the best to connect the g-major to, take a look at the manual - the differences between the loops are described pretty well in there.

If the ground control can be phantom powered you can use a 7-pin midi cable to power it from Herbert (at least thats the way it works with my VH-4 and the midimate) .

Thanks for that assinger! Will have to play with this a little bit. Was also wondering, in the g major manual they were also talking about 'balanced cables' for in ins and outs. Have really no idea what that is, could I just use instrument cables? I'm really not good in this stuff...

This is bizarre... Have been looking for 7-pin midi cables but nobody seems to sell them here in Shanghai. Does anybody have the definitive answer regarding 5 or 7 pin midi cables. And thanks for the link assinger, another new thing learned.

Ground Control: ....If you are not using the GCX, but have a device that supports
phantom power via a 7-pin MIDI cable, this device can power
the Ground Control. Connect the 7-pin MIDI cable from your
Ground Control's MIDI Out to the 7-pin MIDI In on the
device.......

Herbert: ....Midi in receives “program change” orders from commonly available midi pedals
and control systems. The Herbert is able to supply phantom power to your midi
pedal via a 7-prong DIN midi cable. This can help unclutter your stage system
and rids the artist of these pesky power supplies.
Pin 1 and 6 is ground (-)
Pin 3 and 7 is hot (+)
The voltage is 9-12V AC or DC, which is acceptable for 98% of all midi pedals.
Maximum power usage of the pedal cannot exceed 800mA (0.8A)
Please observe proper polarity to avoid damage to the MIDI pedal.....

I have a Rocktron 7-pin midi cable. It's 30 ft. long and a good quality cable - but I don't know, if this is available in Shanghai......

Just wanted to report that a 5-pin midi cable works with the Herbert and GCP. No problem with the phantom power. Also connected the G Major to the switchable loop and midi thru of the Herbert. Took about an hour to go through the manuals and find out how everything works together but once you get it it's actually remarkably easy. A quick pic for your enjoyment!
