There's nothing like a good Les Paul. Mine's an '89 Standard. Refitted with 6100 Jumbo frets and a Suhr Aldrich in the bridge and a SD'59 in the neck.

This thing looks to be dripping with mojo.

Year of my birth too. I've always wanted a LP from my birth year, just waiting for the right one.

As far as picking up a LP in general, DO IT! Probably goes without saying but make sure to play it in person first. There are a few "misses" out there but when a LP is good, it's GOOD!

Just pulled the trig on a cherry S/B for 3K. I'm kind of freaking out but I guess if you want a LP you have to put up the $$.

For 3K I hope it was a historic.

I have a 2012 Traditional Plus, which is a more "traditional" standard than the Standards themselves. The new 2012 Standards are cool... AAA tops and a asymmetrical neck profile. They do have a PCB and versatile switching/coil tap and bypass. Go play whatever you get your hands on, for me its about the neck profile, I like the fatter 50's necks which is why I got the Trad +.

This is my first LP ever and I've been playing for about 30 years. I love the thing and have been playing it almost exclusively since I got it back in March.

I've got a 2012 LP Standard that I got in a trade deal. Although I did swap out the pups for the Suhr Aldrich neck/bridge. Not a fan of the burstbuckers.
One interesting feature is the neutrik style locking input jack- not sure if that's standard on the 2012's. Great guitar but my '79 Standard is still my #1.

the 2012 standards don't have the locking jack...it can be confusing because the model can be made in 2012. You have the 2008 model standard. The new 2012 standards have 4 push/pull pots and no locking jack.

I would hold out for a Custom Shop offering. Don't the Gibson Custom Shop guitars provide a certain level of quality that is "to die for?"
