So, I have a beautiful 1984 Marshall 2204, vertical inputs, Drakes, all original, super clean condition, etc. etc. Yeah, basically the 2204 that everybody wants.
I always told myself that I would never sell it. You know, it's a classic. Problem is, I haven't used it live in the past 17 years, as the bands I have played in always require more variety of tones.
I have been using my Mesa T-Verb for years now as my live amp, along with a few pedals. Love the rig, but it's starting to feel a little stale.
I am starting to think about dumping the 2204 in order to fund the purchase of a new, more versatile head to replace the T-Verb with - in which case the T-Verb will just become my back up head at gigs.
Hence the conundrum: Even though I know the 2204 will hold its value and more likely than not appreciate in value over the coming years, do I sell it to pick up something made more recently that I'll actually use on a consistent basis?
You have the facts. Discuss.
Thanks, all.
