Good guitar player. He was extremely fortunate to hook up with Billy Idol.

I always dug him, but never knew what a killer player he was until I heard his solo album. Love his tasteful phrasing and he has some sick chops.

love his little Suhr Badger demo too

Steve is way cool, but why the black nail polish?

I'm not sure why what he chooses to wear on is finger nails matters enough to even mention. :dunno:
Evidently it matters enough to him to wear it. I am not sure where you are from or where you hang out, but I never see men wearing nail polish. It stands out to me.

Why did you fail to comment to the person who mentioned teasing up his hair? ...or are you only selective toward me?
I can 2nd the polished nails thing. No one here has their nails polished unless they are hanging downtown and usually those guys are wearing short miniskirts and their balls are hanging out     :emofag: :grim: :gay: :emofag: :grim:

Maybe someone was dogging him about his nail polish and he's sensitive.... ?

Great player no doubt. I lost respect for him back in '88 when he was a complete dick to kid who asked for his autograph in Manny's.

WOW!!! Ive had the good fortune to meet and hang out with Steve on multiple occaisions and youd be hard pressed to find a nicer, more humble and accessable guy than him. The guy would practically go out of his way to help you when it came to playing and gear tips.

The first time I met him was here in NYC in the street one day back in the 80's. I walked up, introduced myself and told him how much I loved his playing and asked him some questions about Rack delays and he just hung out and gave me all kinds of advice and ended up taking a pic with me. I was blown away at how cool and down to earth he was to a total stranger. He was wearing this baby blue patent leather out fit with high heeled boots with his hair teased about a foot and half off of his head with sun glasses, Total 80's rock star garb but none of the attitude.

Since then, Ive run into him numerous times at NAMM and I always end up talking with him for awhile. Could be a NY thing as he is a native Brooklynite. Either way, It was always cool to find out that one of my favorite all time players is such a nice guy..

I met Steve at NAMM last year. His gig with Pete Thorn at Tone Merchants was incredible. He has so much feel and intensity. He was very humble and approachable. He took the time to talk to me and said some very kind things. A really nice guy!

Who doesn't like Steve Stevens  Great player! Thanks for the thread. Good vid to check out later

In that vid,you can see/hear the first BareKnuckle "Rebel Yell" made for him...He uses them in most of his guitars.

Nope nothing personal towards you at all and I didn't see the teasing hair comment. I just don't get why it matters how he chooses to dress. I'm from a very rural area and no one walks around dressed like that but I'm sure in LA where he is from it probably isnt that much out of the norm to see people dressing differently. Again it really shouldn't matter.

Could have been a bad day, idk??? He was walking toward the steps in the back and the kid (probably 13-14) asked for his autograph...he just looked down and said "F#ck off". Maybe the kid had been bugging him earlier...hard to tell.
He was all done up like that day too...hair into the stratosphere and high heeled boots.

I'm sure all has to do with image. When most people go to a Billy Idol concert they expect it to not only sound a certain way, but to look a certain way too and we all know how much people hate change. If he started parting his hair to the side and wearing flanel people would freak out!

Hell look at Zakk's fake biker look, he's changed his image a few times. Steve has just stuck with the one.

BTW to anyone that hasn't heard his solo CD really needs to check it out, one of the best guitar CD's ever!

I like when you can really see the differences between and intro and how it's played in the verse for Dancing with Myself in regards to the vocals etc. These are subtle changes but great tips for writers and arrangers. Love his work with Billy and solo. Really tasteful and colorful. I also saw him with Vince Neil live and he did do an incredible solo, throwing in some acoustic flamenco too. Steve's look is obviously out of the mid 70's NY, heavily influenced by the Dolls. It's probably just what he's always been comfortable with. I agree, if he suddenly cut his hair or didn't tease it anymore people would find it strange.

Alright lets get real here, Steve is a killer player and he dress's like a Rockstar because he is a rockstar. The reason his hair is teased up 2 feet and he has on high heel boots is because he is like 5'2" and need all the help he can get. No worries and Steve if you read this no offense at all. He is on the forums and has a rig-talk account.

Steve's had that image from day 1. Not like the guys in Metallica or Nuno who suddenly decided in the mid '90's to wear white dress-shoes and paint their fingernails black.

Me personally, I'm cool with Steve's image; especially given his talents.

Pirate shirts

That si what I would be working if I was a rock star.

Pirate shirts..................silk or turkish 600 count Pirate shirts.

wow, that is badass!

Whatever the deal was back in the Idol days, that music had a new voice and a hot gunslinger guitar player with a cool new approach to the instrument. It was a case of 1 + 1 = 3 with them. It is an identifiable style that has lasted. My daughter heard Eyes and instantly though it was badass... When generations of listeners think something is cool, that is past trendy and into classic.

Agreed!

'Eyes Without A Face' and 'Flesh For Fantasy' blew me away when I first heard those songs. I was just starting to play guitar back then. Steve sure played for the song...I dig guitar players like that.
