Craigslist/FBMP/Reverb rants

Ok, before everyone tells me—I know I can just scroll past these listings but as I say in the title I want to rant a bit.

1) if you are listing a $3k+ guitar, know how much it weighs and post it. Don’t tell me, “it’s really light”, “around 8-9lbs” or my favorite, “I don’t have a way to weigh it”. A fish scale on Amazon costs $10 and arrives at most doorsteps in one day. Also, I don’t care if it doesn’t matter to YOU—for those of us over 40 who stand and play 3+ hour gigs it is a very big deal. I won’t even consider a guitar over 9lbs. If you play 3hrs a week sitting in a chair with the guitar on your knee god bless ya—you go buy all the boat anchors

2) who TF is buying a scuffed up Mesa or Orange 4x12 for $1200?? Lately I see more and more of these. No one is ever paying more than $600 for that cab, and no one cares what you paid for it new.

…all for now, thx for listening…

I hear ya brother. While I don't give 2 shits about a guitars weight, I have seen people thinking their gear is worth a ton. Hell, I've been doing a lot of shopping on Guitar Center's used page and many many times, their used stuff is about as much as brand new. It's like there were price drops from the manufacturer, but the used department didn't even bother updating anything. It's no wonder their used section is full of stuff that will only sell to total retards too dumb to price shop.

my favorite is when I say I can get that shipped to my door from GC for same price or cheaper ( and send them the link ) ...... would you be interested in matching their price ?

and I get talked to like I'm lowballing their price in half .......

I almost strictly buy from GC now for anything used ........ just to avoid interactions with people .

I do get good deals and for the most part I enjoy perusing the marketplaces. Picked up 2 EVH 2x12s a couple weeks ago w/orig Celestions for $300 total. But the responses I get about guitar weights blow my mind. Had a guy with a hand built explorer tell me the other week that if I wanted to know the weight I had to give him a deposit

i sold an boat anchor last year, so i intentionally didn't list the weigh, but of course stated it, if asked.
But of course the people who asked about the weight did not buy it🤪.

Jesus... I wouldn't rant over somebody not knowing the weight of a guitar, and I'd hardly expect somebody to go buy a scale just to accommodate your entitlement. Many people don't care about the weight, many do play at home. Their only motivations for buying a Les Paul is to please themselves, not people like yourself. Get over it - if they don't have a weight, I'd hardly rant about it or lose sleep - move on.

Maybe TGP is your best option - those clowns ask for weights on SG's, and acoustics.

I dunno, I don't think OP is outta line for asking someone the weight on a 3k+ used guitar when just about every dork who buys a fancy LP has to have bought it with some BS sNurTifFicuT oFF aUffEnTiCiTy that allows them to know the weight of the guitar and in turn somehow allows them to play the guitar better. i nEEd sUm I.D wiFF diSS aNd u BeTTer haFF aLL tEh cAisE cAnDy wIFFiT 2.

I would just as soon break a guitar down for firewood than let it sit in it's case it's whole life.

I don’t give a flying fuck what you or anyone else thinks—I’m not dropping top dollar on an instrument unless I know the basic specs. If you see that as ‘entitlement’ u r a retard.

How many 3hr gigs have you played in the last few months with a 9+lb guitar?

Hey, lots of people don’t mind heavy guitars

Timely thread.

Contacted a gal last week on FBMP, selling her son's 1960B that was 100% beat-to-absolute-sh*t. She wanted $750 and wouldn't take a dime less "because of the quality Marshall sound." I sent her links of other 1960B's in the area that were mint for $500, and one that was roached like her son's for $250 (which is what I offered her). Haven't seen the ad since.

I routinely see GC used gear at new prices. But well overpriced is taking it to a new level. The Overland Park GC has a used Bogner 2x12 for $1199. Brand new at SW is $940. I called them out on it. Manager did not talk to me directly but only through the sales guy. " It's a limited edition because of the tolex." I said No. You don't know what you are talking about. Look on SW site. The same tolex. I pointed out same other cabs in GC system in the $700 range and higher. You are way off. I was offered $825 and I said I want to use the 10% off used gear. I was denied that 10%. I called corporate and never got a return call. It's still listed for $1199.

The Guitar Center in Chattanooga at one time had a very high end Brian Moore guitar, the one with all the knobs, fancy electronics, piezo, etc. The electronics had been ripped out and all it had was the 2 Duncans with a tradition 1v/1t wiring setup. Plus, there were lots of scratches, dings, etc, and a giant crack in the body along a grain line. They were asking like $900 I think. I was working on building guitars with a luthier friend of mine at the time and I talked to him about it. He was pretty confident we could fix the crack and stuff and probably refinish it and make it look like a million bucks, but it'd take a lot of work. I told Guitar Center about all the cracks and all that and offered like $300 I think it was, saying it'd cost hundreds at a shop to get it back to what it was supposed to be. They acted "surprised", even though it was plain to see, and a customer had likely bought it off another store and it either had bad pictures so they couldn't see the crack, or it happened in shipping and was returned to that store and they were stuck with it. They were not interested in the least in coming down to the offer and instead counter offered like $600 or something. I said no thanks and passed.

Sounds like selfish entitlement to me. You're the one being a whiny bitch about it. If you don't give a fuck, why post about something so trivial, it's pathetic.

I am seeing prices starting to come down for the most part. My higher priced stuff is still sitting though. Barely even getting any low ball offers on them.

Just tried Sweetwater's gear exchange for three not so high priced items and one sold pretty quickly. Didn't even have to talk to anyone. Notified that the item sold, was sent a link to print the shipping label, and packed it up. As long as I don't hit any snags after delivery, will start posting some LP's that I would prefer not to ship but I have the materials to do it.

Selfish entitlement to ask about an item I'm interested in buying? I know you feel like you are just being aggressive but you sound stupid bro

I'm lazy when selling on CL, one pic of the guitar, some info, price., general location. If there was some damage or flaw, I'd add a pic of it.

If I get questions, I'll answer them if possible,

...but it's local in person sale. I'm not taking 20+ pics of every inch. If you're serious and interested, meet in person and see/try the guitar for yourself.
