Not making any attempt at doing it note for note, just having some fun with riffs from Badland's "The Last Time".

Nailed it!! That is a nice sounding rig. Especially the Stealth....... which I kick myself for selling to you. :D

If you ever want to sell that Peavey cab, let me know. Sounded awesome in room and great recorded.

Thanks for the comments ZR4400! Shortly after I got it from you I replaced the output tubes with a matched quad with the same grade/rating as the pair you had in there. Not that I needed to as it sounded great as is. V2 and V3 tubes crapped out after a few months so I replaced those with a pair of Sovtek LPS's. Still have the remaining Yugoslav whatever it is in V1.

The MC 2x12 is a lifetime cab for me. In fact I would let my Marshall TV cab go before I would off it. If I ever find another one locally I will grab it in a second.

Hopefully you can grab one for yourself at some point. I see them on the Guitar Center used site once in a while.

Is the stealth rebadged as the ampeg vl series?

I've never heard if it was or not. Hopefully someone familiar with both amps can get in this thread and let us know.

Stealth was a Lee Jackson design just like the VL series, similar design but some differences. Living in STL, these amps were always around for pretty cheap, and sound pretty damn good for that 80's early 90s metal tone. Unfortunately, I had a friend who worked at SLM and he told me that these amps were made "from just about the cheapest components possible" and it's really true. For the price, who really cares I guess..but they are not reliable amps at all and are prone to all sorts of bad things happening.

Are you referring to the Stealth or the VL or both? Years ago I read that Lee was not satisfied with the components used in the Ampegs, but I can't remember if that was a direct quote or hearsay.

Both the VL and Stealth have issues with overheating, the Stealth was the one I was referring to.

Considering how tight my Stealth was buttoned up along with no top vent I'm not surprised they would overheat. Mine breathes pretty well as you can see.
:)

Thanks for your insight!

I am going to try to contact my friend Jim who worked for SLM and get some more insight to this. It has been such a long time ago, but I know there is a fairly simple fix for the problem with them. I will get back to this thread when/if I hear from him.

So who wins VTM or Stealth?

Get out of my head. I was just gonna ask you that.

Was the stealth boosted?

Nope! The only amps I boost are my VTM and Penta.

I dig both but I'm buying the stealth!

If you can find a VL502 for the same price or near, go for it. I have seen some go for cheap.
