Crazy To Trade?

If you love the rig you have, don't sell it. Period. If you do you might regret it...then you have to deal with the hassle of selling the Axe and trying to build that same rig again. That sucks..I had a Jubilee years ago that I always regretted selling, and now that I have another it's gonna stay.

Not at all man.

Those Axe FX are superbe units and I probly wouldnt mind one myself if I could afford it.

Tosin Abasi uses one and he has some pretty killer tone if you ask me.

But if you really like the Mesa, why trade. You are happy were you are at and getting an Axe Fx might not be your coupe of tea in the long run.

Why fuck with something you already like it and the amp you have now already works for you as is and meets all your needs right...... So what is the reason to trade really?

Difficult choice. The Axe FX sounds amazing & can do an incredible number of things exceptionally well.

The two notes really is the clincher here I think. If you're happy with your tube rig & want to do home production, you already have the tools & may end up regretting the trade.

If you do try the AFX, I strongly recommend holding on to your MKV for a bit. I couldn't get rid of the AFXII fast enough and had already sold my amp (VH4 at the time) and lost my shirt buying another after dumping the AFX.

This was my previous scenario pretty much word for word.
Thought my tube rig was too capable to have at home, bought an AxeFX & started to really miss the honest response I used to get playing through my VH4.
If I could have owned both, I would, but I think you have to be careful when considering the Axe as an alternative. It isn't for everyone.

Am I crazy to be contemplating putting my Mark V rig up for AxeFXII rig trade?

Every time I play through it I have a huge smile on my face and it feels soooo good.......
Not trying to put your quote out of context......but man....this is the reason to get good gear.
TO bring that smile everytime you plug into it. Hard to find that 'just right' combo that does this.
I say keep the Mark.

Thanks for all the perspectives and responses.

I wanted to hear from those who've experienced the AxeFX II and my interest is in the amps versatility and effects within, as opposed to simply cloning the rig I have. I've had the chance to hear and play an Ultra once and there were some killer tones coming out of that thing in comparison to my Eleven Rack, which is good, but lacked some "fidelity". One which really sticks out in my mind was a Bogner emulation. "Smoky Club" or something like that. As I recall, it sounded amazing.

Call me crazy, overprotective, pessimistic, stupid, etc... for not wanting to put this rig on the crap stages I play, however, besides being in pristine condition, there are many, many other factors for me. How many of you have PRS's, Gibsons, Fenders, Suhrs, etc... which never breath air outside your homes? Seems to me there's a lot of that here with guitars. I feel the same about amps.

Ultimately, I agree keeping the rig and adding the Axe when feasible is the way to go. For some reason, I thought there'd be some here who would give major props to the AxeFX.

i can give major props to the axe-fx, but i can also say that you have a damn good rig that is worth more $.

the axe-fx can emulate pretty much any amp perfectly....some axe models sound better than the real amps because it's quieter.

i wouldn't trade your rig off. save up and get an axe when the money is right.

This board is just populated with folks that tend to prefer tube amps, I think, though a lot of us have tried the AFXII and respect what it is. If you posted this in the modeler section on The Gear Page, they'd be telling you how the AFXII is better at being a Mark V than the Mark V ;)

And nothing wrong with wanting to keep your gear in good shape.

I think most people are in agreement that it's an incredible unit. Anyone who says it isn't needs their head testing. I think it's about weighing up the pros & cons though. I bought mine for the wrong reasons & then regretted the switch. For many players, big names included, it's been a revelation. Logistically, it's a no-brainer. It's low-maintenance, easy-transport & consistent.

I say take the plunge. It may be the best decision you've made. You can always sell it.

i have an axe-fx II that is almost new and i would trade you in a heartbeat. what does that tell you?

That shouldn't tell anyone anything other than your own opinion.

I have both, a real amp AND the Axe-2. Yes, I took the Axe plunge. To me the Axe is an extremely versatile tool. I sold off my entire pedalboard because the Axe works well with the 4cm and having 1 Cat5 cable going to the MFC pedalboard is TITS.

I can use the Axe straight in a DAW with monitors, I can use it as a processor with my amp for ALL effects in the loop or the full 4cm. I can use the Axe in to return of an amp, or use the Axe with a poweramp.

I say keep your amp but sell some stuff and save for an Axe-2. You'll never need to bother with pedals ever again.

Damn, I'm shocked. You resisted as long as you could. lol

I say go with th Axe II. It is more than capable. As both an Axe II and traditional amp user I find it hard to play my valve amps now. They are so limiting.

Amps and guitars are for playing and ultimately made for gigging with. They are not designed and built to sit pristine in your house. Just my opinion.

I had an Axe-Fx for a while.
It felt and sounded as good as a tube amp but it turned into a tweaking nightmare. I just couldn't leave the damned thing alone long enough to get any real practice done. In the end I discovered that I only want and need 3-4 basic tones and my Mesa Roadster covers every one of them without having to scroll through 17 menus to get it.
If I gigged often, recorded to a computer a lot, needed a low volume or headphone rig, or was in a band that needed to have 40 different guitar tones that were spot on with the artist we were covering the Axe would be the perfect solution.

I accidently bricked my axe-fx II while doing a firmware update tonight.....so it now does nothing but display some pretty lights. how did i do it? i power cycled the axe-fx before it was quite finished updating.

thank God that i still have my trusty eleven rack! the cool thing is that my behringer midi pedal is already configured to work with the eleven rack.

the only cure for my stupidity is to have fractal mail me a boot eprom.

now aren't you glad you have a real amp? lol.

Ouch, singtall!

Sitting here tonight downloading PTIEP and getting some time with the MkV has me agreeing it's a keeper. I just don't get to put 'er to use as much as I'd like. Not a good reason to part ways, though, for sure.

Maybe the Karma God's will bless me with an AxeFX-II.

i have been using the axe for almost a year now. I love the thing, great product.
But I kept all my amps and do not plan on getting rid of them.
