I just purchased a Splawn Promod that has a few issues. It's an older model('05) and Scott doesn't have schematics for older models. I know it's asking alot but can somebody snap a pic of R31&32 and of the footswitch board? The only ones that I can find on google are too blurry. Thanks!

That's total BS that the amp maker doesn't have schematics... look for an amp full of cold solder joints. I had 2 and they were awful, couldn't sell them fast enough.

How can he not keep his schematics for his amps?

He said he never created schematics on his older amps. I did the best that I could with the pictures that are on google but I'm looking on a small laptop screen. I just want to make sure I have the correct values in place. I have something wrong though because bias voltage(with tubes pulled) is all wacky! I have been digging for info for almost 2 weeks now and keep "hitting a brick wall".

Sorry mods. I just realized that I should have posted this in the Tech forum.

Any competent tech can create a schematic from the amp, it's not hard. Scott WILL NOT give out schematics because he's afraid people will copy his design. Trust me he has it, he just won't give them out.

I know this much already. I also asked for the values for the burnt parts and sent pictures for proof and still didn't get anything.

Scott will "attempt" to fix it if you send it to him, all I'll say is good luck.

And I don't blame him for not giving it out. If he did, you know some cock knocker from China will be building and selling it.
I bet if a tech called he would help out. Giving DIY amp repair advice could be a huge liability.

Yeah I don't disagree with you. I wouldn't necessarily be handing out actual schems if I built amps.

Also, not sure whats up with the comment above but I would certainly trust Scott to repair an amp he built. I have had my QR for 3.5 years and never had an issue. Seems to be built extremely well. Scott has also been VERY good about fielding questions in the few years I have dealt with him.

:dunno:

I was gonna post earlier, but probably worded it wrong. Scott probably has schematics, but won't give them out unless you are a tech. I had my quickrod in for service years ago, and he helped out the local tech. Might not have sent him the plans, but walked him through them on the phone. Nice of him to do even that without charging or anything. Scott is more than helpful on repairs to his amps. Just doesn't want his design copied to Ceriatone. lol

yeah man, there is a pic out there of a Laboga amps product looking a LOT like a well known amp many here now and love...

This one:

I have a history with 2 different Splawn amps ( one I bought used, the second brand new), and neither of them was right. Cold solder joints ALL OVER the amp, half power switch defective, general poor performance... the first amp went to Splawn and came back exactly the same as when it went down there.
The second amp had issues as well. I sod them both and never looked back.

My tech drew out the preamp schematic... there's nothing secret about it. If Ceriatone wants to clone the amp it's easier for them to buy one and draw their own schematic, so Splawn not wanting product cloned is really a silly excuse not to give an amp owner a schematic to get his amp fixed.

To be fair, Scott said that he didn't have schematics for these very early Pro Mods. He also said that footswitch design was flawed and would need to be replaced completely because it would eventually fail again. The new footswitch boards are not compatible with these older amps and every board would have to be replaced. He made me a good offer to do that. I just don't have the money right now. I wouldn't call myself a tech but I repair amps on the side(kinda fell into this) and I am a former electrician. I also repaired a Quickrod for a local Splawn endorsee that said he had no problem with Scott contacting him for a reference. I could eventually figure it out. It would just take me a while. I'm just looking for an easier way out. Not lazy; just busy.

Unfortunately I agree... I think Scott is a very nice guy and has definitely grown as a builder... BUT, my old guitar player had an older model quickrod and that thing had a lot of issues. Master volume was terrible, loop no good... kept blowing fuses... Amp is percussive as hell but it just seemed so cold, sterile and lifeless to me. I even owned a Nitro for a short time... just not for me.

That being said, Scott was always quickly available for my guitar player when he had issues. Just unfortunate that he had a lot of issues. Cheers

I've owned my quickrod for several years now and think it's a tank. I've played it at serious volume week in and week out. I've been inside mine many times and think it's a well built unit. I'm sure there are turds in every bundle but mine and the guys I know that own them, are rock solid. Mine is an older quickrod so maybe the boards are the same. You are looking for what, the foot switch circuit board?

FWIW, Steve Fryette doesn't have a problem with DIY amp repair advice . . .

But I get the point

Wow I've never heard anybody say negative things about Splawn. I had zero issues with my Quick Rod.

I've had a 09 Quick Rod , 2015 Competition and still have 2012 Super Sport. All three were/are rock solid

Scott will not share schematics even if he does have them. I had issues with a QR and he did walk my local tech through the issue ( although begrudgingly). My 2014 Nitro had an issue recently and the first tech I took it too could not figure it out and Scott was involved. I ultimately had to take it to a former DR Z employee to get it fixed. I was a bit miffed by all of it.
