Who are use guys using for successful custom builds?

I’m interested in having an 8-string Strat/Charvel type build. Nothing fancy from a construction stand point other than it’ll be an 8-string so there are no existing templates for things like the body and neck. So I need someone who can do it from scratch.

What's your price range? The best custom work I know of is the Mayones stuff, just incredible, but this is of course reflected in the price. Good luck brother

I don’t think Mayones will do a Strat shape? I’m pretty sure Schecter will do it. Quote was $5k; I’m still waiting to hear back from the dealer on a few details. Just looking for other options.

Apparently Halo can do it, but I dunno about that one.

GMW will do a 7 string, not sure about 8... maybe, ask Lee ?

My Ibanez Iron label 8 string is actually pretty close to your broad description Basic suoerstrat slab shape with a multi laminate neck that is substantial to say the least. I picked up mine as a Scratch n dent, but it was perfect except a bit of rubbing residue that hadn't been cleaned.

I would put this up against a custom build with the same specs. Obviously if you need specific shape changes or aesthetic additions.... Exotic woods etc. No mass produce would even come close to fulfilling your needs.

Only change needed is to remove the emg 808's for something like black winters or fluentes.

I'm sure this won't apply to someone looking at custom 8 string. Anyone else. Don't ever buy a custom 8 if you are new to 8's. Its not anywhere like going from 6 to 7 strings.

Best of luck finding or having made the one your looking for.

I’ve been playing nothing but 7 strings for close to 12 years or so. Just picked up a pretty nice 8-string (ESP B8), and took to it immediately once I got my preferred string gauge sorted out. Pretty effortless transition IMHO.

Your lucky to have had such a seemless transition. Others I've talked with have not been so lucky. I'm very sensitive to neck shape changes between guitars, so it takes quite awhile to get comfortable with any major changes. Perhaps the length of time on 7's helped make it easier.

Oh, I’m not sensitive to neck shapes/thicknesses unless it’s something really strange. I’m sure that definitely helps. I had to learn to reposition my thumb way back when I picked up 7s, but now I hardly even notice differences.

Matt is a stand up guy too - helpful and knows his stuff!

That looks awesome. Congrats!

I have a Schecter custom shop just delivered today. If it’s super nice, I may just do a custom order from them. If it’s not quite up to snuff, Kemp looks like a great option.
