Custom Shop Charvel with airbrush portrait

What do you guys think about getting a CS Charvel made with an air-brushed portrait of your kid/kids, on the front of the body?

Awesome?

I'm gonna be ordering a CS Charvel at the end of this year, from none other than Curt of course, and I was thinking of doing this.

One example is this.

The issue I'm having is that I don't want the pickups and the mounting rings painted over but, if I don't get them painted, I reckon it wouldn't look as nice as when they are painted, gnome sane???

And I want cream coloured pickups and mounting rings so it'll look even more 'off' unpainted, don't you think?

What say you guys?

I remember someone once posting a picture of a guitar that their kids had drawn all over, and then he was going to get the clear coat on top of it to preserve it. I thought that was another cool way to "personalize" a guitar with your family.

I would Photoshop a mockup if possible to figure out whether you want the pickups painted and hardware choices.

That is really cool artwork on that guitar, but that would not be for me, so I voted cheesy, even though I can appreciate the time and attention to detail it took to make that.

Sounds like a great idea but keep in mind that by the time Charvel is finished with your guitar your children will have aged considerably and won't look like that anymore.

I certainly wouldn't do a graphic like that without having the pickup cover and ring painted - it would look bad IMO. For example, my Charvel Custom Shop JD looks much better with the pickup covered and painted - it would look really wonky and incomplete otherwise - and frankly, the guitar sounds just like it would without the cover if it is tone you are worried about. Hell, I wish they could have painted the Floyd! :

It was actually my wife's idea and tbh, I thought it was a pretty cool idea. But once I allowed the idea to sink in for a bit, it dawned on me that once the novelty wears out, it may just look cheesy. The guitar may end up looking like a Mattel toy instead of a workhorse guitar.

Do you guys have any ideas for colors I should get for the guitar? No blues or whites, please.

WAY too 80's looking for me. It seems like so many of those type of custom jobs are only cool to the original owner, and end up selling for the same kind of money that an off the shelf guitar of the same brand/quality (other than being custom shop) do. Then the new owner ends up either putting stickers all over them, or sanding 'em down just to rattle can them. I like mostly either solid black or solid white guitars with an occassional silverburst, or see through solid color stain thrown in just to keep it somewhat varied. I think my favorite finishes on guitars are in the following order:

Solid black with black, gold, or chrome hardware.
Solid White with black or gold hardware.
Mix of black and white eg. "Schenker" finish or something similar.
Gold Top with stained back.
Stained Korina.

Various stained guitars fall well below these, but could be considered if it was otherwise the right guitar.

If I was trying to be creative, I could go for a silverburst finish that was stained and not painted with a black or green biohazard symbol on the body near the edge between the rear strap button and where your forearm rests. It would be a nice, cool, burst that could show off expensvie wood grains, and have a simple little graphic that would make it unique.

I'm a zombie fan fwiw.
