Had one of the 1st Wizards shipped to me here in the states. First UPS gets me for Customs. I thought that was it... until a State audit now wants 6.5%.

Are they charging you a "use tax" on top of the customs/brokerage charges?

It doesn't make much sense to me in this case though. Why are they entitled to MN state tax on an item that can't even be purchased in MN?

I know how that feels and its not good, everytime I ship even used product to Ontario Canada Canada Customs charges 13% of the Canadian dollar value plus the brokerage and shipping is an expensive venture at times.

Yep, I experience this too... just a fact of buying out of the country. UPS brokers the package through customs, charges you a fee. Typically a state tax is applied at that point and UPS pays for the tax and then charges you.

Yeah, this is BS. Florida wants like 8% from me. Wizard needs to set up some type of U.S. based distributor that takes care of this problem.

So, if you order a new "Wizard" amp you have the pay the UPS shipping from Canada plus a brokerage fee and possibly more? Ouch

Yep, You will get a nice bill from UPS customs, and then another one from your State. Hey, the US is hurting. If you can afford a Wizard amp then surely you can afford to help out the State. Bullshit!

This can't be helped. We canadians have been dealing with this same type of thing since the beginning of time. UPS charges brokerage and in fact it's 3x as much coming into canada. You have to wonder why because it's the same amount of paperwork. .... al 1 sheet of it!! We get charged about $80 brokerage fee and about 14% in tax on anything worth a few hundred or more. I'm pretty sure brokerage from UPS in the USA is about $40. Whether Wizard has a distributor or not, someone has to pay the taxman. Canadians have been dealing with this for years. I'm surprised it took the Uncle Sam so long before he started taxing canadfian goods.

What about bringing the amps in to the states to say a storage spot then selling them based out of that location?
If infact the product is there in physical presence then the business address could also reflect this . Maybe.
I guess the end result is if these amps are gonna carry the

Customs suck I am thinking about sending an amp that way but the shipping would probably cost more than the work. Either way it won't be cheap can't do it at the moment, but would love to in the future.

I had to pay nearly $700 for mine to get into Australia, plus the extreme amount I'd already paid on shipping.
