What's the tonality difference between the RM and the Killer Kali?

I beg to differ dear sir, the tonefinder link's got at least 1 clip with the Rock Monster (I should know b/c I go listen to it almost daily and it sure doesn't help my GAS...  ).

And yeah it sure seems like a marvellous mod!

I'll let Dan chime in when he sees this! The only reason why is because I think that he has made revisions to both mods, so Id be giving you information based on the old specs.

Hey guys!

The RockMonster Mod and Killer Kali Mod are both high gain mods, but are very different in tone/voicing.

The Killer Kali has the classic Jose style tone/mids like the original Cali Mod, but takes it to the next level. More aggressive, bigger sounding, wider dynamic range, much more headroom/volume. The Killer Kali is very versatile, and can cover everything from classic rock tones to 80's hard rock tones and all the way into extreme heavy modern territory (as heard in Killertone's clips).

The RockMonster was designed to achieve a straight up massive heavy tone, and it works great for hard rock and metal. It's got as much gain on tap as the Killer Kali, but it's a different type of gain. A bit more fat/chunky and more compressed. It's not as versatile as the Killer Kali, but it wasn't designed for that. It's ideal for the rock/metal that likes to quickly dial in one main tone and just play :)

Both mods can have extra features/options added too, such as FX Loops, Foot-switchable Masters/Channels/Gain modes, preamp and poweramp voicing controls etc. And both mods have a very low noise floor as i install DC Heaters in all of them. Zero hum at any gain/volume setting.

Hope this helps, if anyone has any questions or anything like that, feel free to email me any time at : Dan@DanGowerAmps.co.uk

Cheers,
Dan

Dan does awesome work. I wanted a modern version of an Aldrich mod done, in case my old rag gave up the ghost. This is the final product. An Aldrich mod with a foot switchable solo master, tube driven switchable loop, external bias, depth, thump and all the usual stuff. Internally, his work is very meticulous and professional. With the DC regulated heater supply, this thing is quite, no hiss/hum or radio stations.

And, we are discussing the next mod, as I have this stock 78 JMP 4 holer NMV sitting on the shelf doing nothing. It will be getting a Killer Kali mod with a couple of twists. Dan works out well for me with him being in the UK. And, you are having your amp modded and tested by a fellow player who has a good ear for what works on stage.

I would recommend Dan to all my friends, even though he is a Limey

I have had four amps in total from Dan.

Three of them were different versions of the cali mod and all were slightly different flavours and they were all excellent.

I also had him do the rockmonster mod for me which is an amazing sounding amp with a very fluid playing feel and great tones , its definitely a different twist to the modded marshall theme and it has a huge fat arsed singing 3d quality to it .
its possible to dial the gain in on the rockmonster to the point that the amp almost feels like its out of control but the amp still stays fluid and focussed ,
the rockmonster also works really nicely with pedals or an eq in front of it although I should add that the amp doesent actually need anything boosting it but its nice that boosts can be used to add a different texture and feel
I especially liked my furman pq-3 in front of it.
The neck pickup tones on the rockmonster are simply flat out amazing ..... imagine gary moore tones from parisienne walkways but on steroids
the rockmonster also gets a lot of doug aldrich lead tones nailed

@ Steve and Ian : Thanks for the kind words about my work, I appreciate it a lot!

@ Mr Willy : Whereabouts are you based? If you're overseas but wanted to have an amp modded, i could source an amp for you here in the UK. That will save you $$$ as you'll only have to pay shipping one way once the mod is finished. Shipping to the USA is approx £100.
