Dan hates the Recto Red Channel

Here is dan boosting and EQing the red modern within an inch of it's life with a multiband compressor and a whole bunch of stuff to try and make the low end behave

I also only did a single stereo pair for the rhythm tracks, where I normally do a quad or more

Leads are centered up the middle - I even attempted to do a couple of arpeggios! (they're sloppy)



I had a million problems with the tones for this, but this is what I came up with

It doesn't sound like how I would want, but you got it sounding better than I ever could. I just can't get along Rectos, even with a good boost.

This is just the best I could do with it.

I ended up using a boost (KSR Eros) as well as a massive eq cut between 80-100hz, and then on top of that a multiband compressor around 100hz

Then I used a v30 to cut further low end, and then added in a 121 to the 57 on it to trickle low mids back in that weren't farting out on every palm mute.

It was a gigantic pain in the ass but the results seem "okay" to my ears. I honestly don't know because I've spent so much time trying to make it behave in the mix

As far as the leads... yeah, as inexperienced as I am with recto rhythm tones, I'm even more inexperienced trying to balance recto lead tones

What cab/speakers? I enjoyed the playing but yeah, that low end is annoying to me. I never bonded with any Recto because of the low end "knock." That's how I describe it and it's very apparent in your clip.

I don't get that "knock" in my Mark IV.

It's a v30 cabinet with a 57 and a royer 121 on each side - which is very, very stripped down from what I normally roll with.

That was just the tightest recto only combination I could come up with without it being all treble, and you are 100% right that "knock" never goes away - I was basically just trying to control the low end because on palm mutes it got completely out of control. Like, another 6db every palm mute out of control.

I'm glad, and it makes me feel like I'm not crazy, that you can hear it too, because it drives me completely insane. Normally when I use a recto for ANYTHING I'm combining it with something else to get more mid-range detail, and this is probably the first demo I've posted on RT that doesn't have that or like a sextuple or octa-mic arrangement hard panned.

Everyone seems to think it sounds good anyways and I feel like I'm going crazy like "can't you guys hear that low end farting out?"

My Triple G the bass is fairly tight. My Tremoverb I definitely hear it. The high end can get fizzy on both amps. I just see it as part of the sound.
My Mark IV the bass is more like thumping a watermelon.
