You know to be honest I have never played with that. But I can tell you the direction of the mains fuse changes the tone. Not kidding

as goofy as it may sound dave, i find that preamp shields often will RING themselves like bells or cause a tunneling effect to the tube which on my amps sometimes makes the tube ring MORE.... I always like them off, i play loud and sometimes at the volumes i play and with the gain i use I find the amp will ring with them on , as soon as i take them off it goes away. Go figure! Weird stuff...

Yeah I will try it. I for one have found so many things that make a difference that I almost don't want to know anymore. But I have to know.

WHAT!  You got to be setting us up for a big ol' burn!

I'll bite

What direction do you insert the fuse for best tone? (Shoot me for even asking :scared: )

listen to it both ways. One is warmer and fatter in the mids.

If I get some of those pretty colored tube covers, I bet that will change the tone.

How about tube dampers? I use them on V1 and V2 in all of my amps.

Why do you think I put these on? The red adds a bit of warmth and gain. I couldn't believe it. ;)

Hey.....where did the lay down power tranny come from? Oh, I bet those covers do warm it up nicely too as compared to stock.

I have found that my amp sounds better when I remove BOTH the preamp covers and then the tubes.... The amp's a lot quieted and doesn't feedback at all....

And if you CRYOGENICALLY treat your fuses (and picks) the amp will sing!!

Well I finally tried this on my Friedman Plexi and Dave your right it does change the tone when I remove the tube covers. Better?....worse?.....not sure, but the amp's tone definately became brighter, slightly louder, and in your face. Pretty cool.

Does it sound better with the preamp tubes pulled?

It gives it a great acoustic quality by doing that.
