Hi all. Here is a song I made featuring my rig from a couple of years ago which was a Randall RM4-RT2/50 with some Friedman mod modules. It's mostly a modified SL+ through most of the tune played through a Port City os2x12 with v30's.
Thought it came up alright for something I did at home in the lounge room.

awesome production on that... what was used chain wise? speaker-mic-preamp-mixing software?

Thanks guys :)
I used the Randall rig into a Port City OS2x12 w/Vintage 30's (have since switched to Scumbacks).
Mics were an SM57 up close and Rode NTK back a few feet, later time aligned to get them in phase.
57 went to a Chandler Germanium mic pre, NTK went to a Joe Meek VC3 mic pre, both into a Digi 002 interface (since upgraded).
Was recorded and mixed in Pro Tools.
Very minimal eq was needed after nudging the waveforms to get them in phase. No compression on distorted rhythm guitars.
Guitars were double tracked hard left and right with my Fender/Warmoth HSS strat on one side and Epiphone Les Paul on the other.
The drums were all played on a midi keyboard using Steven Slate drums for the wood and Addictive Drums for the cymbals.
The solo was the first thing I ever recorded with my Richie Kotzen sig Telecaster, such a beautiful guitar. A bit of a tilt of the hat to EVH on that solo.
There's a build up section before the solo where I used a "Smokey" amplifier on the overdubs, a guitar amp built in to a cigarette packet I picked up in Japan.

well you've got a great ear for tone and recording/mixing then. If I could eventually get something that good on tape I'd be very happy. Impressed to hear there was no compression used on the guitars. You must of had a pretty hot/loud signal going in there. Distant or room mics really make this sound huge!

Very nicely done. Great playing and really impressive recording. I'd like to pick your brain sometime.

Kapo, The only time I'll use compression on distorted guitars is maybe a touch of multiband compression between 150-250Hz if there is a lot of palm muting going on. I may have done that on this tune.
It wasn't really loud either, just enough to move the speakers a little without the neighbours on the other side of the wall banging on my door. I have since sold the RM4 and RT2/50 and now use a Dave modded Jet City 20 watt head for my dirty sound. Same sound, smaller package.
As for the distant mic, it's the only time I have got it to work for me and that only happened once i nudged the NTK forward to be time aligned with the 57. It went from all weird and phasey to HELLO!!
Squank, one of the symptoms of my audio nerdiness is that I am quite happy to have my brain picked about all things audio so feel free :)

That was killer!

Had that tune stuck in my head while driving around. I was trying to find which forum I'd heard it on. Very cool.

Freakin awesome tune! Great tone. I think it stayed just tight enough. I had the Brown Eye mod which is similar but wasnt quite tight enough for me to keep. DFs Brahma mod is where its at for me. Much brighter. Anyhow, great production!!

Thanks again for the kind words guys. It's reassuring to hear that people like it.

My album is finally available online if you want to check out some other tunes of mine.

Digital and physical copies available here as well individual tracks for download :)
