Dave need your advice for tubes and ur mods!

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but am hoping to find some great answers.

I'm the proud owner of a Randall RM4, and two Dave Friedman modded modules, plexi BE and Recto BG

I also own the KH2 and a blackface

I run this into a mesa 2:90 and mesa oversized cab.

I also use an Engl e530 and a marshall JMP-1 in my rig all controlled by the gcx.



My question is i'm having a bit of trouble finding the right tubes for my recto, DAVE! what tubes do u recommend best for the recto with your mod? I've used JJ's (sound too mushy) Ruby's(no life or feel to the sound) EH (just not quite right) and at the moment am using a pair of MESA 12AX7's. I am yet still to use a pair of TUNG SOLS but was hoping to maybe get some answers from the man himself.

My whole poweramp is fitted with JJ's if that helps.

Please Dave let me know.

Have you tried the combination of Shuguang and Tung Sol?
 
The 2 tubes I use are Tungsols and chinese 12ax7b's . Generally I use the chinese in the Randall stuff. But try a Tungsol and a chinese.
 
Sorry to break into this thread, but was curious what the Recto BG mod is. Dave did mod a Recto module for me and I absolutely love the tones it gets. Is this the same?
 
thanks dave, what positions do u use?

i assume V1 is the tung sol (12AX7), and is the chinese tube a shugaung?

Dave's Recto mod has so much added gain that when I have a bit of time I am going to try some lower gain tubes in it. Great sounding module!
