Just curious if anyone on the board owns a Bray modded (or Bray custom) amp and lives in or near the Metro Detroit area....

I've checked out a ton of clips and am really digging what he's got going on. Would love to check one out in person!!!

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this. :D

Bray's stuff is AWESOME !

One caution though ..., I believe he 'tunes' each of his amps using a VERY OLD Marshall 1960A w/ some equally OLD Greenbacks.

I bought a modded 1987x from David and when I hooked it up to my 'old' cabinet, it was a huge WTF ... !

I swapped out the cabinet for one w/ Greenbacks and it was Ahhhhhhhhhhhh !

I've owned 2 of his mods and they sound decent. They both had way too much high end though....to the point where I had the presence about off and I usually like to run it pretty high. There are better modders around here that can get you the tone you're looking for including Friedman and BFG.

i have had his amps. all depends on what you are looking for.

I have a 1987x with his mod 1 with the footswitchable dual masters and various push pull options and it is a killer amp. It really does excel at getting that cranked plexi sound at even the quietest volume levels. He talks to u to get an idea on what u want and what tones u r after, he is very professional and u can believe what he tells u as far as his wait times , u definatly dont have to worry about him ripping off your amp or not answering your calls. He makes the mods appear factory and gives back all the orig parts. His prices have risen since I used him last though. I was tempted to order his Bray 50/45 hybrid after hearing his clips as they were some of the best on the net. Also, its nice to have so many decent modders/builders to choose from right here these days.

Yeah, what Mark said; they're good amps, but I find them a little sizzly on the top-end and scooped in the mids. They have a little too much compression in the low-end too. I hear it kind of as a whooomph quality to the bass when you really dig in. I've owned one and tweaked one for someone else...with a little help from a good builder. That's just my ear, and that's some guys cup of tea, so to each there own. I would second the recommendation on using greenbacks though, as well as a PAF output humbucker. Have Rockstah hook you up with a mod5; you won't be disappointed.

I fell victim to his fantastic clips and got my 1987x with the mod II and was like  Huge dissapointment. It was alright but really didn't suit my playing style.
