The bridge in Tattoo is outstanding. I don;t know who Swamp meet Sally is, but that is good stuff
I understand the dislike of the chorus, but there's lots of classic VH that is just as cheesy & has a similar good time vibe
You all need to get Frosty

The line I believe is Swap Meet Sally, as in frumpy women going to trade parties (how about my dress for your high heels?). While the worst song on the disc, it does have some great lyrics. "from mouse wife to bombshell in the time it takes to get a new tattoo". I also love the lyrics in the second song, "it looks like they towed, my other apartment". The guy might not have the voice that he used to, but man he writes some witty lyrics.

I wasn't expecting anything out of the last one, especially with Tattoo as the lead off single (why did they do that, when China Town is so prime VH). With that said, it has at least 6 winners and 3 pretty good songs. Not many bands can say the same in this day and age.

^thanks for the clarity...that's one of my favorite parts on the disc, his low vocal harmony on that part is haunting
Funny, I hate all the spinoffs of the DLR frontman style- that whole glam Hollywood bandana scene, but I can listen and enjoy VH endlessly

I thought tattoo was a little lame but liked She's the Woman a lot, except that the original recording from the demo sounds way better to me. The production for that song on A Different Kind of Truth was too thick and bass heavy and the guitar sounds like mush. I find this with recordings in general these days. They are mixed much hotter and with way too much bass and thus lack dynamics and clarity, all so you can have your face torn off by the first note of the song. Anyway, hopefully this new album will happen and will have some good tunes on it.

I totally agree with this. Worst VH tone ever on record. I love EVH but he needs to dial down the gain. His best tones were recorded probably with half the amount of gain than his new sound has.

As far as the material goes....the new album (if it ever comes out) will be the first real new album in decades. ADKOT was mostly rehashed demos from the 70s. and those versions were better to me. DLR cannot sing anymore and is too wordy, but I will still buy it ha

I think Roth has had some incredible vocal performances in the studio over the years.

I actually love how the sum of all parts is greater than the vocal track on this song...I love Van Halen. I like Roth, I like Hagar. I do find this one isolated vocal track comical though

If DLR tones down the upper range screaming, and EVH turns the gain to half, I think there could be some cool new (or never used) tunes on a new album!

Tunes like "Cant Get this Stuff" should be how DLR sings now.

Agreed. 'Panama' and 'Hina' come to mind.

p.s. I'm not a big (or really even medium sized) VH fan........... just FWIW
Wow. I am not alone lol!!

In all seriousness, I thought the last cd with DLR was awesome for what it was and age and stage of band. Personally I've always liked the kitchy campy style of DLR.

As long as Dave is singing it's guaranteed to suck.

He can sing?
yes...amazing vocals
Am I nuts? He sounds great on that to me. I mean, it's an isolated vocal track with no effects… Well… I dig his voice on record, but what do I know...

Tattoo sucked ass!!! ADKOT was a good, but overall it could of been better IMO especially if they had a fresh batch of songs and not rehashing the old demos.

I wouldn't doubt Dave's vagina starts bleeding again and it gets delayed or canceled.

All of the hate here is surprising me. I don't love "Tatoo" either, but does it really suck more than "Jump"? Oh yeah, I went there. :gethim:

I just see it as there being more VH in the world than before the album's release, which is a good thing.
