Maybe the upcoming mystery 50th anniversary Marshall amp will be a retro '77 'Brown' head, that EVH can use on the new album!?

Haters be damned i cannot wait for new VH!!!
I'm a HUGE VH fan, and have been since I wore out my VH1 album. No one wants to be pleasantly surprised more than me on a great sounding new VH recording

New VH is good enough for me. They sound tight and yeah they made some mistakes (Tattoo, etc.) but it maybe ADKOT was VH coming full circle with Roth back in the picture.

Maybe it'll be new stuff; maybe not. At least they're out there kicking ass.

All of the hate here is surprising me. I don't love "Tatoo" either, but does it really suck more than "Jump"? Oh yeah, I went there. :gethim:

I just see it as there being more VH in the world than before the album's release, which is a good thing.

LOL... I actually think Tattoo is pretty catchy. Good enough for me.

The album could be mediocre for all I care. They guys are all pushing 60. I'm just glad they are doing what they are doing because for the longest time I had written it off as never ever happening.

Also, I'm pretty sure Dave could kick most of our asses.

I wouldn't doubt Dave's vagina starts bleeding again and it gets delayed or canceled.
I dunno, man - the bleeding vaginas seem to be on the other end of this equation…

Steve

Hmmmmm good band name, the "bleeding vaginas". Gotta certain ring to it eh?

I thought tattoo was a little lame but liked She's the Woman a lot, except that the original recording from the demo sounds way better to me. The production for that song on A Different Kind of Truth was too thick and bass heavy and the guitar sounds like mush. I find this with recordings in general these days. They are mixed much hotter and with way too much bass and thus lack dynamics and clarity, all so you can have your face torn off by the first note of the song. Anyway, hopefully this new album will happen and will have some good tunes on it.

I totally agree with this. Worst VH tone ever on record. I love EVH but he needs to dial down the gain. His best tones were recorded probably with half the amount of gain than his new sound has.

As far as the material goes....the new album (if it ever comes out) will be the first real new album in decades. ADKOT was mostly rehashed demos from the 70s. and those versions were better to me. DLR cannot sing anymore and is too wordy, but I will still buy it ha

Yeah I guess mediocre would be fine, but does age have anything to do with writing or recording a top notch LP/CD? Old VH with Roth kicks major ass and is one of the best bands ever!!!

What's interesting is that when VH1 came out, no one was really doing that.

ADKOT also seems fresh in its own way.

Thirty Five Fucking years later.

I appreciate that the guys want to be involved in the design of everything, but really, instead of them taking 18 months to do a new CD I'd rather them leave all that crap to other people and get a CD in 9 months.

As far as I know, no one looks forward to their artwork.

Am I nuts? He sounds great on that to me. I mean, it's an isolated vocal track with no effects… Well… I dig his voice on record, but what do I know...

Steve

Yes, you're nuts.

It sounds great to me too.

I'm surprised how good it sounds without the music. It sounds great to me too!

Eddie Van Halen:

Cool guitars, original design = Good
Amazing Rhythm and Lead playing = Great
Change the face of Rock guitar forever = PRICELESS!!

I am not judging Van Halen based on one album, that's silly.
VH's first album was 1978, geesh that's pushing 40 yrs ago now.
Hope to see a new record that is representative of how VH wants to sound today.

I mean, while I agree that the amount of gain in Ed's tone has increased and DLR may need to dial it down a notch to get through a tour, a new record is ALWAYS a good thing, IMO.
I am pretty much blown away that they are willing to record and keep playing.
Relax on the comparisons... even Led Zeppelin had their moments of "questionable." Was every tune awesome, no, yet they still changed things forever, the band is still a legend.

You don't have to like it. Just respect VH as a band of legend that we are lucky enough to be around while they are still producing material.

DLR to me, made VH have their panache and presence.

Hagar was a fill in.

I'm a huge fan and agree. I just think he has completely lost it. He literally doesn't sing anymore and I really think he oughtta just fess up and come out of the closet. Who's he think he's fooling anyways?

Don't they need to finish their "postponed" tour first? :gethim:
Hey, my mom was even a bit too young to see DLR VH back in the day (She did mention she may have seen Sammy Hagar Van Halen on the 5150 tour but can't really remember... MY mom, BYU attending, straight laced, Mormon mom saw fucking Van Halen on the 5150 tour but can't quite remember...!) so when I almost got see Van Halen at least once live they cancel the damn tour and the week before our show was going to be anyway is when Ed was rushed to the hospital so even if they didn't cancel I was destined not to see them...

Just let me experience King Edward play live at least once!

problem I have with them moving forward is exactly what we will get from them in terms of creativity. I just keeping thinking about EVH comments about 100's of song ideas, presumably riffs that are probably relevant to a time 30-40 years ago, but not today. They really need to evolve and create some new form of music that draw from their roots instead of re-heated and re-worked leftovers that don't exude the period we live in. Otherwise just go out on tour with the greatest hits stuff and call it a day, if a few of them can stay off the sauce and avoid the in-fighting.
