Suck it! There's no real Van Halen without Dave. I'd rather watch DLR roll around on stage in a wheelchair with a colostomy bag than hear Sammy whine his way through "why can't this be love" any day.

You're about at that point from what I saw last night. Love the DLR era songs, no love for Dave. Sorry but he's well past his expiration date. Sammy can still bring it. I liked the Van Hager stuff for what it was, just a different version of the band. I think they had more hits with Sammy and Ill gamble made more money in that era as well.

All I know is that I was the biggest VH fan in the world as a kid, then 5150 was released. I've never been so disappointed in an album before or after... The VH energy was totally gone IMO. It was even worse than Bob Rock getting a hold of Metallica. Nickelback has a lot of hits and makes a lot of money as well, but I ain't listening to that garbage either. ;)

Hear Hear!!!

No matter how hard the Samaddicts wish for a return Evh has eluded many times Sam coming back is Never happening.
Sam aired out so much about Ed and Alex that no amount of $$$ could repair the damage.
Was Evh mean? Probably but he built VH and Sam came along long after they were huge.
I like Sammy in Montrose but the sappy crap he brought too VH........ I will not forgive him for.

Seriously? the early VH records are great and so is most of the stuff with Sam.

At this point there is no comparison. Sam can still sing and Dave can't. Dave seems super creepy now too.

Also Sam was in Montrose. Advantage Sam.

^^ this :)

I mentioned to a good friend of mine about not sounding good on Kimmel and his response made sense to me.

"Dave is Dave. He gets a pass. It's rock and roll not American Idol."

I can live with that. EVH was on and smooth and that is what I listen to anyway.

I love EVH no matter what and lets be honest, most people go to see Eddie anyways. Doesn't matter to them in the least what a bunch of forum riders say anyways, they're still going to sell out every show they play. I know Ill be there when they play mansfield ma

I saw VH a few years back. I went to see Eddie and the band play, not to hear Dave try to sing. Dave is just there because they need someone to waive the flag and shit. I did miss Michael. Wolfie did a good job but Michael could probably still sing the songs much better than Dave. Many years back when I saw them Dave could still scream and sing.

Guys are forgetting Sam had a very lucrative solo career at the time he joined VH so at the time it wasn't a slam dunk and Sammy got the deal of a lifetime, it was a good mutual fit and Sammy gave up his solo thing to do VH...solo thing which mean 100% control and all the cash.

I said it, I like the DLR era songs best for a lot of reasons, including Dave but mostly the ground breaking guitar work. There were really good tunes with Sammy too, but yes some dreck as well. DLR VH had some real turds too...how many good tunes are on Diver down? The strong ones are great but the albums did have some filler crap on them too.

  Jesus... the debate of the Van Hagar chronicles will continue until we are 80 years old probably!

So when Sammy joined did he also patch in that sucky pitch shift int Ed's sound to make it royally suck compared to the "Golden Era" of Roth? Come on, say it. Blame Sammy for Ed's gay woo woo effect tone too.

To me Ed's queer My little pony tone change was a bigger issue than Sammy. I'm actually authoring a book about it - "The Day the Brown Sound Died!"

Ed was using pitch shift since Fair Warning. DF
