Def Leppard

The sad thing with Def Lep back in the day is that they didn´t film more shows. There´s "In the round, in your face" from 1988 and that one-off outdoor show back home in Sheffield from maybe 1993 or 1994. Not a single scrap of footage from the main Adrenalize tour, for example, which on all accounts was spectacular, and nothing official from the earlier Pyromania days either. As far as I can remember.

I saw them last year with Tesla. Good show, Joe's voice is shot. Seeing them again in a few weeks.

Agreed!

Their last good album was Pyromania...I can't stand anything after that. Mutt Lange both made them and then ruined them.

Pyromania was a real good album but my favorite is without a doubt High-n-Dry. Joe should have stuck with those vocals at least some of the time.

Ok, I just saw them like 3 or 4 weeks ago here in Orlando. The show was suppose to be 3 months earlier, but an hour before show time the whole fucken concert was cancelled because Elliot's voice was toasted. Everyone was pissed. Heard the previous show in Ft Lauderdale was horrible cuz his voice was gone. He actually had the guy from Tesla finish out the night it was so bad. Should have called it then, not an hour before showtime. Man people were pissed. Driving in from out of town, hotel rooms booked, limos, all that shit.
Anyways, the makeup date was set and sadly, Stix was no longer on the bill. In their place, REO Stationwagon. Not really the biggest fan of 'I can't fight this feelin anymore', I somewhat reluctantly went to the show. To my total surprise, REO was the best band of the night. That singers voice was dead on, bass and drummer were friggin rockin hard as hell and tight, and the Les Paul wielding guitarist was friggin fantastic! Do not show up just to see Def Lep. You will appreciate REO's energy and musicianship, even if they aren't your bag. 'Keep on Rollin' was absolutely friggin fantastic. No oiled up, shirtless, cheese there at all. Just a bunch of guys really playin at the top of their game. Not a single problem with the singers high notes either. Awesome performance.
Tesla actually opened and they were very good as well. Both guitar guys shredding away with those harmony leads in Modern Cowboy(Closer) and others. Singer for Tesla was good, not great. Struggled on a few tunes but all in all, pretty good.
Ok, now for Def Lep. I am almost positive that Phil oils up before going on stage. Thought it was just that the dude sweats a lot, but when the spotlight hit him on the opening chord, he was more oiled than a Canadian tourist on South Beach. He also had more camera time on the Jumbotron then anyone else. Way more. I thought they band and Joe Elliot sounded pretty good. Elliott was hitting the higher notes but they were coming out very soft and lower volume than the rest of his singing. He actually sounded pretty good. They had a bit of a snafu on the opening of 'love bites', when Rick Allens delayed drums somehow got out of sinc with the rhythm of the song, and both Elliott and Collin turned around and gave him the,'dude, get in together' face. I don't think it was his fault, not sure if he has any control of the delays on his kit. Someone probably got chewed out on that one after the show. Very elaborate LED screens behind the stage and behind each guitarist. Sometimes the screens behind Vivian and Phil would be a 'picture' of their stacks, EVH for Phil and ENGL for Vivian. I thought those were real amps until I noticed that when Phil Collen stood next to one on the Jumbotron, the bottom cab was taller than he was!
All in all it was a good show, but I'm in agreement with many who have chimed in here; Phil needs to put a shirt on and ease back on the oil. Bass player could loose the Michael Jackson glove too.

Seen Def Leppard twice. Once in the late 90's/early 2000's. Great show.

Last time was with Bryan Adams about 8-10 years ago. Joe's voice was noticeably not that great and overall they just didn't bring the energy they did at the earlier show.

Phil "takes it in the colen" Collen needs all that oil because he works out all day everyday lifting and doing kick boxing

It has got to be clear to anyone who see's him (except maybe himself) that he is as gay as they come. There is nothing wrong with this of course, but his behaviour and attire speaks for itself. The shirt is one thing but the oil? I find it really off putting to see personally. Yeah we get it, you look good for a dude over 50 and you love your roids, working out, and grinder app.... give it a rest. Maybe write some memorable music instead?

There was a pic online of him at a wedding being kissed deep by a black "woman" that towered over him (it was hinted that "she" was a shemale)..."she" was big enough to be...

Can't make out any Adam's Apple from this angle...

I don't want to come down on Def Leppard or people going to see them, etc. I mean, I'm going to KISS in August and am a big Metallica fan, and I realize these guys are getting older.

With that said, I think Def Leppard got lost along the way. I think back when I heard "Pyromania" as a kid and went nuts for it and I was in high school when "Hysteria" came out. Although that album was very polished, it was a hit factory and had strong songs with great guitar tones. I also thought it was great how they rebounded from Rick's accident and didn't turn their backs on him and made it work.

Yesterday, I listened to their newest hit "Are you Man Enough" or something like that. Ugh. It was polished more than any country song and the guitar parts are almost non-existent. They just are not the same group in look, sound, etc. I saw a interview with Ann Wilson from Heart and she was talking about touring with Def Leppard and how they had these juice bars backstage, whey protein, candles, etc. The bass player looks like a mom on a soap opera. I could go on and on. I can't think of another band that has let me down like them but still enjoy their old songs.

And one more thing as I finish off my rant. Vivian Campbell kicks ass and shouldn't even have to suffer in that band. His guitar work on the Last In Line band's album was great and so cool hearing him rip it up a bit. He also played in Thin Lizzy for awhile and has been fighting cancer.

Definitely implants either way.... look at the side boob...plastic outline. Anyway doesn't really matter what his preference is, this is 2016. Being gay anymore isn't exciting, it is run of the mill every day. Now you need to up the anti and be dating someone who is transgender! I am pretty positive my wife's cousin is dating an asian lady boy now but he seems madly in love so isn't that what it is all about? Who am I to judge... that said, i still have the right to judge an oiled up Collin :D

Agreed but think of the easy pay cheque.. he probably counts the $$$ in his head during the shows and then goes back to rockin out in small clubs playing music he actually cares about between tours. I will admit though, having played shitty songs in a band does make you feel like you are losing your soul. I did that for free... I can imagine i could suck it up for a 4 month tour if you paid me a few hundred grand.

yea no pete willis no def leopard for me,it ended with high and dry
by the time i saw 12 year old girls singing pyromania around the way i was already onto maiden and Metallica

this for me is a better version of the 70 year old rock star

Phil Collin is such a douche, running around all oiled up and shirtless. Can't stand him. I can take JE's voice being shot more than that other douche bag prancing around the stage like he's God's gift to women.
