Both! analog voiced digital.

Did you mean digital voiced analog?

This delay rules. Best delay pedal I have ever heard/used.

Been reall y starting to crave a darker warmer repeat of an analog delay. Been using digital for as long as ive been using delays. what are most guys using these days? are there drawbacks to switching to an analog delay?

I thought the empress delay was nice..

That sounds pretty good

No I meant what I said, a pedal that achieves its delay via a digital chip but has a high cut filter on the repeats to voice it like an analog delay. an analog voiced digital delay pedal.

The empress is in fact an analog voiced digital delay pedal when the filter switch is in the high pass position. . The filter switch has three settings on the empress, normal for a typical digital reproduction, high pass for an analog sound and also a low pass for thinner sounding repeats each time.

That empress pedal does in fact kick ass ! I love their parametric EQ also.

+1

I use that same pedal. It's awesome. End of story. Compared it in-store to the Time Factor and a bunch of others. It's way easier to use and sounds great. All the different sounds you can get with this thing rock.

I was wondering what you thought i meant here and it just clicked.

when i said analog voiced digital I meant:

"analog voiced" digital pedal

rather than

analog "voiced digital" pedal

I totally see how that can be confusing now, at first I was like  what doesn't he understand about my post? :dunno:

I use one of each. On one pedalboard its a Maxon AD-80 analog delay and a Akai Headrush E1. the 2nd one I have a Maxon AD-80 and will be getting a TC Nova Repeater soon. I like the Analog delay for shorter slapback delays and the warmer sound. The digital delay is nice for longer repeats and tap tempo feature....

Echoplex EP-3....

I love the EP-3 too but it can be kind of a pain in the ass and not very practical, that's why I mentioned "headroom", just like the EP-3 or EP-4 has.

I agree....they are a total pain in the ass at times....but NOTHING sounds like the Echolplex IMHO. Very special box.

Place an EP-Pre pedal at the end of your pedal chain and your whole rig will sound just like one big Echoplex, but louder.

Both!!

Apples to Oranges to me, I use them for different things

Analog for the searing solos and smooth/liquidy leads and for the ambiance and feel

Digital for the cool perfect repeats and nifty delay licks (like Paul Gilbert's echo song)

Funny, because I use a Deluxe Memory Man right now for my analog delay and I'm currently looking around for a Boss Digital Delay (had one before, but sold it :()

+1 exactly right!!

Bloody awesome! Couldn't have said it better.

I love analog delay tone but don't like the noise or the muddiness, the Strymon Brigadier answered my request, awesome sounding with more headroom than any delay I've had, loves gain. It's still just a pedal though. Just ordered the chorus as well.

or feels the same either, and these gimmick Echoplex preamp pedals do just an OK job of it, I prefer the EP Booster over the EP-Pre but still not the same. This Strymon delay is the closest I've ever got to the old school delay tones compared to the raunchy, musty smelling dirty Echoplex.

I think Damage Control is making pedals under the Strymon name. Something like that?
