and that's one of the better RATT songs! lol... Pearcy looks like a concentration camp victim though. He might need to lay off the drugs. That won't help his vox though, he's never had any.

SLO on the crunch channel, enough gain there for leads?

With the Master on 8 and above yes.
Below that needs a boost

OMG I can't even imagine the SLO at 8. I had it up to six and thought I would melt. Maybe it stops getting louder at that point?

Anyway, crunch channel has a lot of gain. More gain than a stock 2203/2204 in my experience. So if you don't need a boost to play lead with one of those JCMs, I wouldn't think you'll need one with the SLO's crunch channel. But it's not a very tight or aggressive tone or attack. So if you wanted it more in-your-face you'd want a boost anyway.

And I guess I'm in the minority? The vid in the OP sounds like the OD channel with the gain around 5 or 6 into greenbacks, not the crunch channel to me. That's pretty much spot on to how mine sounded. Is it confirmed that he was using a Marshall in that vid?

If you listen at 1:40 you can hear his cranked guitar tone...its that low gain woody knock and no "chung chung" whatsoever. To me low gain amps boosted sound better/heavier than high gainers turned down? And some high gainers have that characteristic chung no matter where the preamp is set...sounds good in a bedroom situation but cranked up sounds hollow with the drummer pounding next to you.

There in lies the reason most 80's bands died. I didn't want to listen through a minute of that gay song to get to a solo or anything else. Great guitar players like Warren and Lynch had to suffer through too much gay commerical crap songs.

Yeah, life sucks as a player when you have gold records and are headlining stadiums. ;)

I'm sure Warren and Lynch were just fine with it. The hits are the only reason they're still around today and not working construction.

They went from stadiums 80's, then around 1991-93 they were playing clubs. What clubs have Metallica and Megadeath played...ever! I like the fact that the metal bands survived and the gay 80's hairspray bands suffered. Of course I love guys like Warren and Lynch but look at the big picture, most of their songs kinda sucked.

I just remember the funny George Lynch story about George trying to steal Warrens modded Marshall
At his kids birthday party . George said it was the best sounding head ?
That story is a classic...the head wasn't modded though, it was a stock Marshall that just happened to be a "good" one.

Exactly...you beat me to it. I understand what Dan is saying as I was checking out of 80's hair metal at that time myself, but it was still hugely popular overall. It's easy to look back and say "wtf were they thinking?", but at the time they were living large and ruling the airwaves and concert stages.

You know, of course, 99.9999999999% of guitar players will NEVER headline arena's right??? Ratt and Warren did it for years. It cannot be discounted. Ever.
It was the "gay" hits, as you say, that filled those seats.

Nothing gay about it because you all bought the records and learned the songs so just own it sally...

Megadeth had some very lean years playing smaller place, not just stadiums...and so has Anthrax. Metallica SHOULD have been kicked off the pile after Load and Re-Load....OMG YUCK.

DeMartini's earlier Marshall plexi was measured by Marshall prior to the release of the 1959SLP reissue. It had a plate voltage that was around 600 and was biased hot and had to have fans on it at all times and would eat up power valves as unless you are using vintage NOS glass, new valves do not last long.
Warren brought his amp to the studio for Jeff Beck to play through during that Jon Bongovi session for the cowboy movie..

Megadeth played Michael's 8th Ave (holds maybe 500-900 if that) in the end of the 90's. I saw him there, have his guitar strings, backstage pass autographed and a $10 bill Autographed lol

Also saw him at George Town University and Suicidal Tendencies opened for him. that place holds maybe 1000 people

That place is used for small wedding receptions and a few local boxing matches, Bull roast etc.

HEY Whats wrong with construction :gethim:

Great thread! And being a new SLO owner, I'd love to stumble onto a closer shot of his settings, at least just for a goof to sample them.

Wrong in a few ways. Ratt never played stadiums, unless they were support as part of a larger bill. They did headline arenas for several tours in the U.S. though. In more recent years they have headlined theatre shows and large clubs. Megadeth has played many of the same venues Ratt has played in recent years, so you have no point here at all. Look it up.

And Ratt was doing clubs from 91-93? Not true either. After 1991, Ratt was on hiatus and never played any shows at all for several years.

If someone thinks Ratt songs are "gay," that's fine and dandy. We all can't like the same things, but I guess some people just feel compelled to shit on things they don't like. Personally, I think it's great that Megadeth and Ratt, and all kinds of other old school bands are still going strong. It's unlikely that either band is going to have another hit album on their hands at this stage of their careers, but they can both still earn a living playing music they dig. That's pretty cool in my book.

On a final note, just last year, Ratt headlined several $3,000 seat type venues and also performed as direct support on bills with Van Halen and Aerosmith/Whitesnake, in front of tens of thousands of people. Where's your band playing this weekend?
