I had this thought today that I should splice together a comparo of the song my band just released where I go back & forth between the plugin / IR and the amp / cab. Easy to do since I have all the things from the recording process. Thought you guys might be interested in checking it out. From the description-

"Thinking about how we triple-tracked the guitars, in the beginning we recorded direct in with a Radial Engineering box and used an Amplitube Mark IV plugin as well as a Recto 4x12 V30 impulse response to do all of the song tracking & editing. Then, once the final mix was done, we went back out through another Radial box and re-amped into my Mark IIC+ and Rectifier 4x12 V30 cab with a blend of two mics (E609 + SM7B) to get the final product. I thought it would be fun & informative to take both tracks & compare the digital vs. the analog guitar tone in our song mix! Check it out, and what do you think?"

Nice riffs and both sound good..I think the mic'd cab is a bit more open and organic sounding whereas the direct ir is more streamlined,neutral....but take that lightly,my ears are probably blown out from 3 decades of 2 full stacks behind me.lol

Wow man nice job. They both sound really good to me, I like the analog best also. Something about mic'ing a cab in a room that just sounds awesome to me.

Big difference. The sim lacks bite, sting and attitude. Nice vid, tube amps win again.

Thanks guys, learning the recording studio process has been a new & fun thing for me. I will say that I was actually impressed by the plugin- if a guy didn't have access to the real deal it's a very legit alternative. I set the "knobs" on the sim exactly like I have my Mark IV dialed in and the character was there. Not as good "in the room", but I've quickly learned that in the room & on the recording have little to do with each other.

Also to add, the thing that really gets me is listening to the difference in the lead tone- the real amp has that epic Mark liquid lead that I've never heard replicated.

Sounds great. Reminds me of Metallica. I too like the analog better. Most noticeable around parts like the 2:55-3:15 comparison. Analog just hits that heavy stuff much harder. But without A/Bing it I probably wouldn't have noticed enough to say something.
