Not in the market for one, but I just realized that I havent seen much talk about them. So, with that in mind, what's everyone's take on Diamond Amps? Good? Bad? Rather have a Diezel? :checkthisout:

I know the Nitrox was popular for a while... but don't all amp companies get their 15 minutes

Isn't the Diamond amps guy an attorney or something like that from what I remember reading awhile back...using lawsuit threats to protect the designs. Although I don't remember them popular enough that they were being copied. Could very well be wrong...lol.

Seriously. Who wants to copy his designs?

I've never come across a band actually using a Diamond amp. EVER.

Doesn't Godsmack and Five Finger Death Punch use Diamond Amps?

Alice Cooper's guitarist was using them a few years back when I saw him and his tone was awesome...I never plugged into one myself though. Who knows if he was really using them or not though???

Wasn't there some talk of them ripping off one of John Suhr's designs? I vaguely recall something along those lines.

I can vaguely recall some kind of "scandal" myself...... :gethim:

Even more of a reason NOT to use one.

Godsmack uses Splawn....

On the note of Diamond, I have a buddy that uses a Nitrox and loves it. It works great for his flavor of choice (thrash) and more power to him. I've also seen stuff about the guys from Sevendust using them for a short stint. His Nitrox comes off like a different flavor of rectifier to me. I don't love it, but have no reason to hate it. I'm just an EL34/Angry Marshall-esque kind of guy.

I gigged a Phantom for a couple of years. Great tone and my amp guy was blown away with the quality of the build. I live the UK so have to import and other than my Carol Ann it is the only amp that hasn't needed to go to a tech virtually immediately for some kind of work. I realise shipping is luck of the draw but the packaging and component quality was first class. I would have bought a Nevada but they got a bit expensive.

Cheers Rich

There's a guy on YT called the 'Rackdoctor' or something. Think he works for some 'LA Sound Design' company (I'm guessing in LA) building custom rigs & pedal boards. He seems to exclusively build mono/stereo rigs with Diamond backlines. Some of the sounds he gets out of his rigs are some of the best i've heard, give or take. He seems to be an intuitive genius in stacking overdrives & picking & tweaking delays/chorus FX. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would choose a crap platform for his pedal rigs.

He's where I found out about Xact Tone Solution pedals. The XTS overdrive pedals are utterly superb. I digress of course.

That would be Dave Phillips from LA Sound Design. A noted Diamond user.

I owned the Diamond Phantom for a while before I went the Axe Fx route (and now back to a Splawn) and it was a very decent amp. The clean channel was amazing on a high gain amp. The crunch channel is a little fizzy, especially at low volume as Reza mentioned above, but boosted and turned up loud, it was a great amp. Very solid construction and the green LED's looked cool IMO. I got mine for a good price, considering it had to be shipped here to Oz. I would own one again if I could find one at a good price.

as reza said, fizz bombs. awful sounding amps, nice construction. he should hire a designer , seems he can afford it.

I saw Shinedown last Summer and the guitarist had some Diamonds in his rig, sounded good in the mix.

I got to play a nitrox at GC in Boston this spring. the amp EQ'd weird. it sounded pretty bad ass and huge with the treble rolled completely off but it needed more attack. every time I tried to dial some treble in it lost that girth.
