this mode is just purely evil sounding, it doesnt have the cut of the extreme mode but its deff a touch more glassy and a bit more aggressive, deff alot of fun to play on.....im not sure if it comes close to the real thing but either way it sounds SICK

just some more random heavy/sludgey-ish riffing

i played my black ESP MII with an emg 81 in the bridge .... the amp is on 10 watts with the variac on in triodes

NO BOOSTS OR PEDALS!!!.....just guitar into mark 5 into bogner v30 cab

let me know what you think...

Sounds AWESOME!!

I think your videos are going to bring a surge on the Mark V sales!
Sounds just KILLER!

Keep rocking Brother!

that would be funny .... i should contact mesa and see if they wanna endorse me

I love that tone.
Alot of guys think it may be TOO METAL but I love that GROWL and Grind that the Mark amps give.
Never owned the V but had a III and currently a IV.
Special amps for sure!

Sounds cool! I will say the IIC+ mode didn't even come close to sounding like that when I owned it. I had that amp for over a month and was disappointed with it. I, too, have the exact same cab as you and was using an EMG loaded guitar. Glad it is working for you. I couldn't get that mode to sound like that unless I used a boost. Keep posting clips!

Nice man. Wow, that is a lot of gain. I can't even imagine what the other two modes are like!

How loud are you there? As Gibson5432 said, my Mark V also didn't seem to have anywhere near that amount of gain. For my tastes now that tone is kinda too scooped and i feel it would get lost in a band mix though.

on 10 watt mode i have the output volume at 110clock and master volum at 10oclock

i swapped out the preamp tubes for tungsols in all positions and the power tubes are jjs

ther are actually alot of mids in the amp it just seems scooped cuz i dono i think my fingers add that scoopy-ness to it lol....call me crazy but i think its true

Now that's a f**king lot of gain but I gotta say that all the other IIC+ mode clips of the V have been low in the gain department when comparing them to Metallica's or DT's IIC+ tones. They've been dry and thin sounding on the top of everything.

Next time we have an amp gathering you gotta bring that head because i want to see if that tube change you did really made the difference. The V i owned had nowhere, and i mean nowhere, near the amount of gain you have here.

Here's a mark V i made and i did have the gain up pretty high, even though I'm playing just leads you can tell how much less gain i had.

Maybe the mic itself is acting as a "boost" per se, sounds quite heavy/saturated regardless.

Dan let us know if you come to find that your Mk V was sub par for some reason. Both Bill Staley and I talked about this awhile back... we were surprised how much of a bad rap the Mk V got on the forums. Both of us thought it sounded pretty damn nice really.

The Mark V has plenty of gain. The trick is that certain settings make it sound 'cleaner' than it really is.

The biggest culprit I've found is the normal/bright knob on channel 3. In normal it's smoother, which comes across as having less gain. Bright brings out the upper harmonics and makes the amp sound a lot more gained up.

The amp isn't lacking any gain IMO. If I remember correctly, It's got 5 gain stages all of which are tube, I just think they are less compressed gain stages so your fingers really shine whereas some amps squash the nuance out of it and just go for loads of gain. These clips sound just like the MKV I was playing yesterday.

Big Rich, when you say 'Master Volume' do you mean the 'Output' knob?

There must be something wrong with this head, it sounds very different thsn the other videos I've heard.

like all mesas the treble knob also adds gain

i have my treble knob between 230 and 3oclock right noe and believe me thats where im getting my extra saturation my gain knob is at about 2 oclock in this vid

the output volume is the output knob, and the master volumes are the individual volumes for each channel .... so i guess i shoulda called it channel volume instead of master volume

are you saying my amp is broken lol ???

okay ...

most of the people that have done demo vids to demonstrate the "broots" of the amp dont actually dedicate all their time to playing "Broots"

i however play nothing but brootal metal and every amp i buy has to deliver some massively over the top gain sounds ... if i had to describe what i wanted my tone to sound like in one word i would call it "armageddon"

the reason youve been hearing a different sound from the mark 5's is youve been listening to eric clapton play metal on the mark 5 instead of james hetfield .... do you get what im trying to say??

I think the thumbs up smiley means he likes it compared to others he has listened to (at least how I read his post). Glad you like the amp. It was cool when I owned it and sounds like it is right up your alley. Now go make more clips! If you can make the stock IIC+ mode sound this way than I would love to hear what you can do with the Extreme mode. That's almost what it sounds like.
