the reason youve been hearing a different sound from the mark 5's is youve been listening to eric clapton play metal on the mark 5 instead of james hetfield ....

Very nice sounding man! I don't generally use the 2c+ mode as it sounds a bit thin to me in comparison to the other two modes on channel 3, but thats probably just my lack of time spent dialing it in.

lol if i did a vid showing how to dial in an amp id feel like a douchey know it all prick, im just really familiar with mesas ive owned ALOT of them since i was 16.....just read the manuals they really help alot with getting familiar with everything


and it helps to get the mesa branded jj preamp tubes out of the preamp, i never had a good experience with those preamp tubes in ANY amp i put them in...i just think they sound thin and make the amp feel stiff and uneven.......throw some tungsols in the preamp and youll see how much it thickens and opens the amp up....it adds a completely extra dimension to the amp

yea i think its a good PI in this amp i tried the sovtek lps in ther but i like the tung sol alot better

seems to keep the feel solid and tight

I've got a JAN GE 12ay7 which is a high headroom lower gain tube which I'd like to try in the PI if I ever get the Mark. Maybe would keep it tighter at higher volumes??? Not really sure if the Mark flubs out at high volumes like the Recto does. I can't imagine that it would, but it has the same power amp as the Recto does so anything goes I guess. Either way it would be cool to try I think.

With that said, Tung-Sols are my favorite preamp tube for gain.

What other amps do you own? I never thought my Boogies were compressed until i started getting used to other amps. Now when i go try a Boogie I'm like, "holy shit this is compressed".

absolutely!!!

that bogner got boring pretty damn fast, i can dial in VERY similar tones on this mark 5 and than some..

the bogner was cool and all but having only 2 channels that sounded almost alike and having no dedicated clean channel got to me after a short while....that bogner was the only amp i ever owned that i didnt keep for at least a year....there was just no WOW factor with it after a while i can only really get one sound dialed into it that i liked...i LOVE ubers but i think i like the blue revs better for some reason

there is just so much more to expand upon with the mark and i honestly think it has more tonal character than the bogner ever did....ive owned alot of mesas in my life and honestly ive never said ive been bored with them

im not falling for that overpriced boutique amp trap again....im good with my boogies

but you could be right honestly ive been hearing this mesa tone for so long that i could be hearing compressed tone that i feel isnt...who knows, thers nothing wrong with a little bit of compression

im just saying though, the camera mic and youtubes extra compression arent helping the clip of the amp at all
