for the no politics/religion change to the forum today? Interesting,, need to know the back story on this one

I just assumed it was a bunch of members asking that it be so since it seemed there was a small group of people that only were here to post about politics and sling poo, not talk about gear/music. It didn't bother me, I just didn't read it but it was getting so bad that the 'New Posts' were mostly politico-poo-slinging threads. It had reached critical mass.

I'm disappointed. Get rid of the trouble makers instead of putting a gag on everyone as a whole. Rig Talk has always self governed and has worked. Not all Pol/reg threads turn into a shit storm. Those that are only interested in those threads and post nothing beneficial to the forum, can them. It's worked for years, why change up now.

Because just like roaches, they always come back. This way there's no more posting it...period.

I like the policy. Politics bring out the worst in people. It was getting viscous in there. I definitely look at a few forum members(not here specifically but other forums as well) differently than I did before I read some of their politically charged rants. Some dudes I would consider bros turned out to be real dicks when it came to politics and/or religion, like I said not here specifically. Then when they would post in the main forums I was like,"fuck that dude, I don't care what he has to say about gear or what he's selling."  There are plenty places on the web to argue and roll around in the mud. This is a place to get away from all that negativity.

Why not just have a sub forum dedicated to politics/religion and relegate those posts there?

its probably for the best. remove the undesirables who didn't even discuss guitar and only brought a lot of negativity.

Don;t know about political threads BUT I DO know I went back and checked out your band camp page and that is some killer music!

It was no longer discussion about politics. It became a pathetic mess. A few years ago it was more open and did not immediately become personal. I remember having heated debates with individuals about politics and religion and a few minutes later would be having a great conversation with the same person about gear. Some of these people I strongly disagreed with became trusted friends. Recently I have seen the crazy political nonsense bleed over to gear threads.

+1 - Off Topic has become a cesspool of insults and other nonsense, over political stuff especially. The incredible divide in the country has manifested itself there big time. I see no reason to continue it...

Just for the record, I make amps, but I don't have a sub-forum here and I didn't lobby for this... not that anyone cares...

Congratulations Rig-Talk on caving to liberal / PC culture.

If people are attacking others, warn, then ban.

OffTopic Central: Abandon hope all ye who enter here...unless you say something some delicate flower doesn't like.

None of us have any rights here. The owner makes the rules and gets to change them whenever they want to, without notice. This is not a First Amendment issue. And we have no one to blame for this but ourselves. We couldn't have respectful discourse on these subjects and because of that, we lost the ability to discuss them.

As far as "caving to liberal / PC culture", when did we get a vote? Oh yeah, we didn't because we have no rights here. The only thing we could do to not "cave" is leave the forum en masse. Not sure what you're suggesting?

None of us actually know why the political/religious threads were banned. Could have been complaints, could have been that the owners decided that the personal attacks didn't fit with their corporate brand. Either way, as I said, we have no one to blame but ourselves...

Place is a far cry from when Sgt Thump and the other guy ran it. A shame

I'm reading between the lines and I like it. :D

None of us have any rights here. Correct

The owner makes the rules and gets to change them whenever they want to, without notice. Correct

This is not a First Amendment issue. Correct

And we have no one to blame for this but ourselves. Incorrect. We can blame the perpetrators.

We couldn't have respectful discourse on these subjects and because of that, we lost the ability to discuss them. Incorrect. Some couldn't.

None of us actually know why the political/religious threads were banned. Someone does. There are other ways to deal with the perpetrators. Read my post above.

You're being obtuse. Who are the "perpetrators"? And what can we do about them?

BTW - I have not seen one political/religious thread where a person was disagreeing with someone respectfully and that person eventually (usually very quickly) wasn't personally attacked or had their beliefs belittled. This is on both sides of the argument.

Exactly. Keep us simply talking about gear, gasing, and ultimately spending money.

Yeah, it was getting brutal in off topic. It was surprising to see adults acting like mad children having temper tantrums.

I was hoping for some sweet irony that this thread would turn into just as a big a shit storm where we argue about how we argued in Off Topic....

The decision is fine with me, as it's so toxic all it does is depress your feelings about the Human Race. But I also think there'd be no harm in leaving it alone as adults have the ability to not click on threads or leave threads when they get crappy.
