Decided to move a few things around and hook some things up differently. First thing was to move my 2nd Wizard 412 cab upstairs...yeah that was fun! Thought to myself halfway up that this was stupid.

But continued on. After getting it up there I removed the casters so I could stack the cabs in my iso room and mic up both cabs.

So the top cab is now hooked up and mic'd with an I5 on one speaker and a Heil PR30 on the other. The bottom cab is mic'd with an I5 and Beta 57. Both cabs are hooked up to THD Hotplates, the top goes to an 8 ohm and the bottom goes to a 16ohm. I like to run mismatched impedances alot, some amps like it and others don't. This will allow me to do that.

Then I hooked up the Hiwatt to the bottom cab /16 ohm HP and the '68 plexi thru the top cab / 8 ohm HP. Now I'll be able to run multiple amps at the same time if I want. The phase had to be reversed on the Hiwatt so it sounded right...pretty cool!

and with all the DC-2 talk I dug it out since it has stereo outs and ran my modded TS-9 into the DC-2...then out stereo to each amp.

Right now I only have a two channel ART mic pre, so the bottom mics are going thru it and the top are using the mixers mic pres. Guess I'll have to remedy that at some point.

Anyway, recorded a clip banging out some chords using the different settings on the DC-2.

DC-2

EDIT: Here's some mindless 2:30am noodling of the setup. Hiwatt is on left with Marshall on right. TS9 added partway thru..

Cool. I dig the base tone but I'm not so sure I care for what the DC-2 is doing...I'd reserve final judgement after hearing it in a mix.

Yeah settings three and 4 are too much for me. One is my favorite running stereo and two is my favorite running mono. It's also cool with none of the buttons pressed. It's not something to use all the way thru a tune.

This is the first time I've used two amps at the same time. Never been a fan of that really, thought it would be interesting to mix the Hiwatt with the Marshall and see what happens.

Base tone is awesome, I don't like the effects much though...

Looks good! I agree with the above, the dry tone sounds good

I think it would be appreciated more in a mix of a cool song. Around one minute in I was waiting for you to play the intro to Passage to Bangkok.
Very 'live Rush' sounding, back when I liked Alex's tone.

Yeah George the basic tone rocks hard but the effect is kinda killing it for me.

What I hear as well, first thing in my head was older Alex tone.

3 and 4 with gain is too much, clean amp 3 is flesh in spades and I use 1 for STP covers and it works rather well.

Fuck ya all, I liked the sauced up tone and bet it would sound great in a mix

Ha ha....I was playing that earlier   I'm really liking the Hiwatt. With the new filtercaps and power tubes, it's pretty cool. Going to take a bit to dial it in, responds different than the Marshall.

Thanks Jim. Was running thru all the different modes of the pedal. Used in small spots its very cool. Also mono is different sounding (which is how I normally use it).

You know that's funny, when we did STP stuff that was my go to pedal as well. Its awesome for that.

Thanks for checking it out. Used in small doses it's very cool. And like Scott was saying on clean tones it's very cool.

I did add a clip without the DC-2 last nite....it was 2:30 am though.

What speakers are in the cabs, George? Great clips btw.
Its the Rock 20's in both Arild. I like them alot. :)

You know me, I usually go for the exagerated high gain sounds that aren't the norm but for the lower gain sounds I think that you captured a killer tone here. I like both the dry and the sauced. To me they both work

Yeah Ralph, it's a cool tone with a good feel. I've been trying to get a lower /mid gain type tone for awhile. It's been tough getting the right amount of crunch, keeping it clear and crisp. The bottom end needs alittle bit of work, but it's really close for what i'm looking for.

You need to take a spin on my Matchless Chieftain, although I think you're doing a pretty good job with the Marshall/Hiwatt combination.

I'd love too try that....along with a few other items you have. :)

Both of the amps sound good on their own, together they sound good too. The Hiwatt is just so different the way the controls work/ interract. Using CH I of the Marshall and the Hiwatts are jumpered.

Killer Shenker tone on the dry non colored clip. Those PR30's sound like they do the trick!

I really dig the marshall/hiwatt clip

Always wanted to try a Hiwatt or Reeves but I just never come across them :(

Thanks for checking it out. I looked around quite awhile to find the Hiwatt. Almost pulld the trigger on the Reeves, then this DR103 popped up a somewhat local CL ad. A few emails and an hour or so drive later I scored this one. Really was hoping to find an old one and got lucky. Not many of them around for sure.

Thanks! The PR30 is a cool mic. Not too picky on placement and pretty even. I see some guys on here liking the PR20 so I may pick one of those up to try. My 421 is out getting repaired. Nice to get that back sometime soon.

Killer rock tones for sure! The DC-2 reminded me of 70's Rush, almost perfect. Marshall Hiwatt combo works! never heard that before. What speakers are in the cabs?

Probably get close to Hemispheres with alittle work :) Now to score a cool old 335

The speakers are Wizard Rock 20's....kinda like the old bass cone pre-rola 20's I used to use. They seem to record pretty well. GB-ish with more clarity. :)

The Marshall has the "thickness" and the Hiwatt the "clarity and tightness" it seems. It's fun to play thru too.
