Hi, im new to the board, just got my first vh4s off of ebay and i think it's messed up. I'm running it into a stereo mesa 412....the speaker B output is in the 2x8/1x4 ohm output going into one of the 4 ohm inputs on the cab....the speaker A is connected the same into the other 4 ohm input on the cab...is this right? Now when i play, the A side master works fine into either of the 4 ohm inputs (i've tried switching the connection)...but the B side pops when i turn it up and then has practically no volume....when facing the front of the amp the 2 6550 tubes on the left have a bluish glow to them. Could that be the problem? The tube failure lights on the back aren't lit up. Also seem to have a pretty excessive hum that follows the pop, even with the guitar volume off....only way to kill it is with the mute....i've had several amps in my amp room cranked up and never experienced a hum before....I would greatly appreciate any help you guys could give. Thanks a ton!

I can't help you much, but blue glowing tubes are tube in their dying days. You can download the manual from the diezel site which should tell you how to rig up the speakers to a stereo amp. Mine is a standard VH4 so I'm not goning to comment. You shouldn't get much noise out of the amp unless you have a grounding problem in your signal chain somewhere, the amp is pretty quiet, not silent but quiet.

sry no!
the blue glowing is only gas in the Tube
and thats not a symptom for a dying tube

They glow a little yes, but they shouldn't be bright and generally they'll be about the same, if some or one starts glowing more then the others it's probably going bad or your bias is way out of whack. I had 2 start glowing (blue, the heaters stayed the same) more then the other 2 in my VH4, a couple of days later, pop, 2 dead tubes.

Please call Tom at Magic Parts and order a quartett
of EL34BHT and bias it to 30 mA each tube.

Thanks,

Peter
