My VH4S sounded HUGE when cranked. Never played it at bedroom levels.
Got that Herbert coming in next week.......and I am going to crank that bastard like there is no tomorrow!

I hope that you will bolt and glue everything down in your home because there is going to be a earthquake at your house and and the noise police will be there shortly.

Well I work nights....and 99 percent of the time I am home when the gear is delivered.
I will be like that dog in the window staring waiting for the Brown truck to pull in the driveway!

Some guys think it sounds great low but get's wierd when you turn it up. .

That's how my ENGL was... it all of the sudden became way too fucking bright. I swear I could turn the treble and presence to 0 while it was cranked and it would still be shrill

Yup! I had the Engl Fireball 100 for a while.....
It seemed to lose balls when I cranked it up LOUD. It got LOUDER alright...but that growl was lost.

The VH4 has a definitely "middy" Marshally kind of "cut" that is not naturally voiced in the Herbert. I have been able to get 'close', but I agree on the natural voicing issue that you're referencing! all good!

That's what I love about the VH4 and why I say it has more balls than the Herbert. To me, it's not about 180 watts vs. the VH4's 100 or so. It's about the inherent character and feel of the amp.

Yeah, I just like cranking the Herbert and getting that dark, low mid, along with that THUMP which is so characteristic of that amp. A lot of guys hate it, which I think is why the amp is mistaken "for not cutting through the mix". But I agree that the VH4 is devastating on its own - BREWTAL!
