Digital Vs Analogue delay......

IME: there are good and bad digitals and analogs.

In general, Digital.

in all honesty, I have never even owned an analog delay.

Good and bad on both...I just tried an Analog voiced Digital delay...and it sounded bad.
I like the Carbon Copy.

Analogue has an inherent warmness to it, rolls the high end off a little to sound more natural.

Digital is a sterile copy of the original signal.

I like both. For short slapback delay I prefer analog delay. I use a Maxon AD-80. For longer delays with tap tempo, digital is great. I have an Akai headrush and plan to get a TC electronics Nova repeater at some point (for my 2nd board).

so, just because it's digital, the high end can't be rolled off on the repeats?

I think you're generalizing a bit much here.

FWIW, a GOOD digital sounds great to me. 2290, SDE2500, SDE1000, ADA S1000, ADA D640, Chandler Echo, etc.

It is a generalized statement, but it's a true statement. Some digital delays have the ability to roll it off.

Edited:

Only if you use a lame digital delay, or have a sterile sounding original signal being repeated. ;)

Both I guess but I prefer the tone of analog by some way. Digital does have it's uses however.

I generally like Digital better. I like to hear exact copies being echo'd back.

Pedals in front for clean/semi-dirty - analog slap on almost all the time and kick in a longer dd for leads.

High gain I like a rack dd in the loop.

I find it funny when this discussion comes up and "Digital" all gets thrown together in the same group. THEN you go into other threads and you hear guys argueing about how one digital delay blows the other one away.

I can say that not all digital delay's are created equal. Do you really think a Boss DD6 sounds as good as a Timeline or a Pigtronix Echolution?

FWIW, i did not like the Carbon Copy.

I have been spoiled by rack delays, I had a friends dd-20 here and my SDE-3000 just leveled it and we are not even talking close. The decays, the way the unit handled the core tone, everything. Same goes for verbs, after going lexicon there are no stomps imo.

That said I deal with my dl-4

I much prefer digital delay. When i think of delay i think of an exact copy of the original signal. Analog almost seems like a whole different kid of effect to me. I'd rather have a BOSS DD-3 to a Carbon Copy.
