Dirty Fingers: Original vs the reissue? I've owned several old DF's and loved every one of them. The clarity and balls of those original ones is killer. I'd like your opinions on the Gibson reissue vs the old ones.

(Thanks to ToneNerd for that excellent writeup on how DF's were made back in the day and how the Psykes compares to originals. The Psykes is on my radar, but in this thread I'm interested in what you think of the Gibson reisses.)

Absolutely no comparison. There’s been a few threads on it lately. There’s magic in the original. But as scottosan has explained so well, they aren’t potted so it’s a wild horse with gain. Unless you want to pay the money, I’d do the Psykes.

The older ones were wound pre CNC wonders. People that have dissected indicated the the winds weren't especially tight or uniform on the outer part of the bobbin. This could attribute to more bounce similar to slight scatter wondering

Additionally many were reported to to have a coil shape where the coils were fatter closer to the top of the bobbin.

I can only imagine they the new ones are CNC wound have have "too perfect" of a wind.

that said, some people seem to like them.
