What I meant is that GENERALLY, distortion pedals don't sound as good as amplifier distortion. It's less noticeable at lower volumes, and there are better pedals out there that really sound great, but they will cost more. The Hot British is an example of a pedal that sounds great, and would be a good choice for the sounds you like. It sounds like you're determined to get a pedal, so the only thing left to do is buy/sell until you find the one that works for you.
I have no idea about European prices. The Dual Terror new is like 800 here (USD), and used Rockerverbs can be found a hair over 1000. Personally, if I spent 800 on an amplifier and then used a 200 dollar distortion pedal in front of it, I would rather sell the amp and spend 1000 on an amplifier that serves my needs. But, other people are really into pedals, so if that works for you, go for it.
