I liked their Silverface Fender tones cranked and some tones were Ampeg which I found interesting, I was just too young to really understand the band.

Recently I have been listening to the Stones on Amazon music with headphones. Each era / album has very distinct recording techniques that can really be heard wearing cans. I find it very cool to hear.

Dunno….I didn’t hate that. Jagger at 82 sounds better, or at least more interesting than a lot of people trying to be old school rockers who are 22.

Idk tech. The Stones are one of the few acts who not only made it, but stood the test of time. I’m not sure MJ had the foresight back then in his 30s to say I’m rich as fuck, I’m done. I’d bet opposite. He probably thought, this works until it doesn’t and then we will do something different. Different in progression of musical style and we will be one of the bands that creates the style of the times not follow the times. The Stones were innovative enough to merge ideas from jazz/blues and incorporate into a new forms of rock and roll. Singing slightly out of time and flat/sharp to create tension is displeasing until resolution- not normal for the time when they started. Most was bubblegum rock until until they said fuck that…. Ruby Tuesday, time is on my side, get off my cloud… wtf is this? Maybe horrible by our standards today but back then waaaay cool as it was so different. I can actually hear Mick Jagger singing Biz Markie’s “They say he’s just a friend” song. They have an unbelievably good group of songs throughout the decades and I could probably listen to them without getting bored. The 70 and 80s are no different. Mick reminds me of DLR in the sense of his stage antics, talk singing, out of time. No one did that quite as well as mick did and does; it just works. Point that I’m getting at; Mick and company were musical innovators not folllowers. They made some of the most famous music ever recorded.
Maybe the most famous rock lick ever ?? Satisfaction. Ehh. Just a 5 am coffee thought.

During that era, Mick Taylor usually had 2 Ampeg V4 stacks live. Keith and Wyman were both using Ampeg SVT’s. VT22 100w combos were used on many recorded tracks.

The Fountain of Musical Youth. Amazing. Gives me hope that people can still do great things later in life, even in their 80s!
Far more vital than bands like U2, etc, were even 20 years ago. The Stones never lost their strut. They are who they are.

i made a post last week about drinking with this blind dude at the bar and he had me put this song on the jukebox, he was air drumming those tom parts and doing dance moves ive never seen before when those horns kicked in at the end. when i listened back the next day, i understood
