Do all the Bareknuckle pickups suck or just mine?

Not trying to stir the pot with BK fans, but man.....

I picked up a custom shop 7 string BCR a while back with a Warpig set in it and I just can't gel with them. They are so "clear" and lack compression that they sound like they lack gain, definition, and bottom end punch. Pretty sure there isn't anything wrong with them because as soon as I stop playing I get a TON of feedback, so I'm pretty sure they are damn hot.

I'm pretty disappointed actually, I was hoping they would rip. I made an offer on Reverb for an SD Nazgul/Sentient set and looks like I'll be going that route.

Anyone else have similar results with BK's, or is this more so just associated with the Warpig?

The only one I`ve used is the VHll and to my ears it`s a great pickup but there`s others out there I like just as much or more

mmm no, just set string height correctly and make sure you picked the correct pup for your guitar's wood.

Same here. I'm very happy with my VHII. No feedback or other issues. It sounds exactly how a hot PAF type pickup should.

Got a Warpig in my baritone. They ARE really clear, but as far as gain, punch and bottom end its there.

Far as BKPs go, I've never had pickups more sensitive to height than these. Mess around with that if you haven't. I've had like 6 different types of sets from them and they're all like this.

Warpig baritone clip, just fucking around. If yours doesn't sound like this, mess with the heights and see what happens.

I've had just one, a Holy Diver 7, and it was meh. Like your description. "Clear" but just lacked oomph and body. I haven't been particularly interested in trying others.

Get that bridge warpig up around 2mm from the bottom of the low e-string and you should have all the beef you need.

BKP are very sensitive to height adjustment. It took me a long while to get my Rebel Yell to the correct height. Once I found it, its a killer pickup. They are very clear and uncompressed. Takes a bit of ear adjustment.

I've had a few (and played many more). I've never liked them. Worst part is I recently paid $160 for one, tried it out for a little while and struggled to sell it for $100. I will never buy a BK pickup again.

I've moved the bridge pickup up and down, up and down, etc. Too close, and it's just a mushy high gain mess, too far away and it lacks gain completely, in the middle seems to just blend those two together rather than finding a sweet spot. I didn't buy the Warpigs, they came with the guitar.

Nazgul/Sentient on their way.

Something doesn't sound right if the Warpig is lacking low end. If anything the complaint with the Warpig is that the bass is overpowering.

I set most of mine to 1/16 treb side and 5/64th bass side last fret depressed. That usually seems to be the area for the ones I've tried.

Indeed totally overpriced stuff.
Have kicked them out of all my guitars and sold them.
I am now experimenting with a lot of different Entwistle Pickups.
And the trustworthy Seymour Duncans.

I tried a few models (RY, HD, NB, CS, and MN) and they were not for me. I moved on to Motor City Pickups after that!

Yup agree - I've tried the Miracle Man and Aftermaths and thought that both were pretty meh.

I do have a P92 in LP Junior that I like though, ironically they don't make that pickup any more :)

I bought a guitar that had them installed and I took them out the same day.. put my seymour duncans in there and all was right again. I had creamy texture and bite again.

The way they make them with the scatter winding, they are super dynamic with not a lot of compression. I really had to adjust my playing because I was so used to a wall of sound type of hot pickup. The clarity is great and really stays together with high gain. The price of that is you loose some of that power and balls that you may be used to.
Warpig is their most "saturated" pickup, but the pick attack and hotness in terms of power, they are well below other pickups.
I really like recording with them because of the clarity (I use the Holydiver), but sometimes just in the room/live playing I prefer the usual standards (JB, Super Distortion etc)

Same here, I LOVE my MCP alnico Solution in my KE1. Probably my best pickup I have. But, for what these fancy pants pickups cost, my go to selection has always been a Distortion, Black Winter, or Nazgul.

Think it was a cold sweat that I tried. Super clear, yes. But lacked "life" to put it simply.
