Do all the Bareknuckle pickups suck or just mine?

I wanted to check out some other pickups just to get an idea of what I might be missing. Popped in a Nazgul, adjusted up, down, pole screws and was really surprised at how compressed and fizzy/blurry it sounded no matter what I did to it. Kept it in there for about 10 days but finally had to pull it and the Aftermath went right back in. Good chunk, forward mids and nice grind all without the high end fizz.

I didn't dig them. Went back to the 81...so maybe I am just too set in my ways.

while we are speaking about pickups here and not to miller the thread, but I just got my Luxxtone guitar and it has a Luxxbucker humbucker in the bridge...this pickup sounds awesome and the expert setup of the guitar by Luxxtone makes it a playing machine.

Anyone know what this pickup is based on? I think Arcane makes it, but do not know.

7 string Nailbomb and Painkiller here. Absolute clarity and non compressed crushing tone.
I have no idea what you guys are referring to here. My experience has been fantastic.

They are very different than a Dimarzio or Duncan, but that's a good thing. I love the Super D, Distortion and love the Aldrich but the Bareknuckles also have a place. Very modern and work very well with high gain rigs.

I love the Bareknuckles I've owned and tried.

I'll admit, these Nailbombs are pretty tempting. I think they would probably look really cool in the guitar in question.

They are nickle, not gold, must be the camera flash.

I have a set of Rebel Yells in a LPC and they sound fuvking great. YMMV.
+1

I have their hot P90s in a old 70s LP Deluxe and they are amazing.
I've tried a few of their humbuckers and I don't find them lacking. Rebel Yell bridge pup was amazing in my Les Paul.

I find it hard to believe that BK vs SD vs Dimarzio have a certain family tonal quality. There are so many variations from each manufacturer that gross generalizations seem unlikely to be accurate. Ie, Dimarzio are too whatever and BK are too compressed....

I'm 99% sure you're correct in that Arcane winds it for Luxxtone. Ask Dave (Shark Diver) for the specifics, he'll get back to you quickly.

Arcane . I think Arcane and Luxxtone have owners in common?

Wow thats kind of discouraging... I was close to pulling the trigger on a set of Warpigs for a baritone guitar.

I have BK Mules in my Les Paul and a BK Riff Raff in my eg-1 traveler guitar which I think sound great. If you could follow up once you get your SD Nazgul/Sentient I'd be interested on hearing what you think of those as well... To me another option worth checking out are the SD Alpha/Omega pickups. I bought a PRS that came with them which I think sound great especially for bottom end.

Dont' be discouraged...i have about 5 different pickups from BK. They are all great in the proper guitar. The ceramic warpig is my personal favorite.

I think they're great too honestly. Only one I've tried I really didn't like was the aftermath. It had no kick in the lows BUT to be fair I don't detune that much so I could see why they're voiced that way. I always go back to the juggernauts and c-bombs. Love those pickups! Still waiting on my motor city pickup which is think will be even more my style. I flippin HATED the nazgul and I liked the Pegasus... Sentient to me is an ok neck pickup. I loved the alpha/omega set too. Just different tools for different jobs. Also the materials used in bkp are MUCH higher quality then the other companies... They fit together perfectly and are stamped and machined nicer. Like Duncan's with bolts the gaps are always weird in the bobbins almost like some bolts are crooked... Always hated that but it never stopped me from trying them. Just sayin though beyond the argument of it sounding like their price... their is a reason they're more expensive and you can tell in the build quality.

The only one I bought was the Mule bridge for an LP and it was killer!

Owned a Miracle Man set & now have a Nailbomb set loaded into a Custom 24. I have my heights set pretty low. Lots of chime & clarity to them. I prefer them to the Aldrich pickups that were in my Suhr I think.

There was a post a few weeks back of YT BK demos that were really useful. Might be worth getting in touch with that forum member as he would've spent a lot of time installing & adjusting the different pickups & heights to taste.

I would double check the wiring on those Warpigs before pulling them, REALLY sounds like they're wired wrong... not liking the tone is one thing but your description really sounds like something is wrong

Now that you mention it, it kinda sounds like they're wired parallel instead of series. Might be worth checking out.

I've owned 2 LP's with the Rebel Yell set and was blown away by them. Killer sounding pickups!

Set of BK Nail Bombs in my 60's SG and to my ears they're awesome.

make sure the correct wires are soldered....wire color codes are different from other brands

I owned the ceramic Warpig before, which was OK. Wasn't terrible but wasn't all that great either. I played a Les Paul with Nailbombs for a short bit once which sounded fantastic.

Bareknuckles are excellent for clarity. I have used them since before they even had US dealers. When you A/B them with some other pickups, they do lack in the punch department but they are still very good. Punch and lows are not the same thing. They have lows just not as much punch as some others. Not that those other pickups are better per say.
