If you are going to bump a bunch of threads just to get your 50 posts to post in classifieds at least do it in some slow sections of rigtalk so we don't have to see all these old threads at the top of the main forum again, sheesh!

Always have always will. They have maybe three songs at best.

Not posting there.

I'm not too farmiliar with the Stones. I've heard the popular songs and I've never seen them live but I like the songs I've heard.

I agree with a lot of the posts here. Writing an amazing song and being a guitar virtuoso are two different skill sets and IMO it's better to be able to write an amazing song.

The video in the OP did absolutely nothing for me at all.

With that being said (and I know the stones are getting old) I do think a band should be very tight live no matter what skill level their songs are at.

I saw the Chili Peppers live about 15 years ago, was pretty excited because I always liked them. Especially very early on when they had a Cali punk edge to them but they were absolutely horrible live and it was a huge disappointment.

STP opened up for them and STP completely stole the show. They were amazing live and left a great memory. So while I think a great song is better than a skilled song, putting on a good and tight show is very important to me and a bad gig can leave bad memories for the audience.

Was never a fan. Thought there were always way overrated. Rock star attitudes? Yes! Some nifty pop tunes here and there? Yes! But other than that, I'd rather listen to and see AC/DC live.

and I could give a fuck about Keef, especially after what he said about Led Zep.
Fuck Keef.
x1000! Fuck him, I don't give a damn about Queef Richards!

Don't care to see them live at all, but they have some great classic tunes & riffs for sure...........I really love 'Waiting On A Friend' and probably 10 others

I saw them when a buy-side broker invited me and my wife to a concert in their box. The main stage show was good, but I thought they were great when they send to a small stage on the other side of the venue and played with 2 small amps, a drum kit with 3 drums and 2 cymbals and mick with the mic. Sounded tight and we're having fun.

1965 to 2016 and counting, 51 years must be doing something right.

I'll take the Stones over about anything past 1991' including your accountant.

Yeah they're Dinosaurs but i like Dinosaurs. :D

Agree with you 100%

Although there were some cool albums in the last 25 yrs from other artists.. but yes, they are most definitely doing something or did something right to have lasted this long.

Fair to say the longest rock n roll surviving band ever ?

F*ckin' LOVE the Stones.

F*ckin LAUGH at the OP :hys:

Go have a beer Gerlach... Go read some cook books and stuff.

I worked a handful of dates on the voodoo lounge tour as a pa and helped the video guys...

It is big business, actually the biggest there is...they take it very serious.

Say what you will, nobody moves cash like a stones tour.

and they pay the help...I was making 200 a day plus per diem in 94!

I think their drummer Charlie Watts died like 20 years ago and they managed to somehow preserve his skin and replace his insides with a robotic skeleton to move to the music, sort of like the old school Chucky Cheese robots.

My favorite Stones tune by far. Been on the verge of doing it live in a solo acoustic or small rock trio format for years. Just such a laid-back, easy-going tune. Hard not to feel good while playing that one.

So 3 weeks is considered an old thread? :jerkit:

I could never quite get there musically with the Stones...on the more pop side, they never grabbed me like the Beatles. On the more rock side, they never grabbed me like Zeppelin. Plenty of songs/riffs I do like by them, but just not an overall huge fan.

However!...the fan base (particularly the baby boomers like my parents) has always seemed cool as hell to me, they don't seem to be hung up on all the 80's baggage we go through like "can Don Dokken still sing" and all that. They just go to what may be musically a crappy live show after show and seem to have an overall good time with all the cool stuff they grew up on. I could be completely wrong, but my impression is the Stones seems to bring people together in a cool way even if they aren't by any means a tight live band. They've got to be doing something right!
