Does anyone manufacture a buffer with adjustable level?

I’m just curious if anyone makes a true buffer with a level knob. I find that a lot of buffers drive too much and add too much brightness. I’d love to find a quality piece. I do know MXR makes something that has a slide and 2 buttons, but the level doesn’t work the way I want.

One thing I’m looking for is the buffer to work in an insert effects loop.

MXR Micro Amp pedal ? It’s a preamp so it converts instrument level to line level, not a buffer per se but it will change impedance from high to low and in so doing sort of buffer the signal...

Interesting thought. I have two from the 80’s I could try

Doesn't Ceriatone makes one of these for their insert loops? Expensive though.

What comes to mind are the typical d*lator stuff.

In pedal form you have the Fuchs Tube FX Loop or Reverbator. Ceriatone makes a solid state version called Kleinulator. Most of these are gonna be around 200+ though.

There’s also the g lab signal adapter which is more affordable. I haven’t tried that though. I use the reverbator in my amp with an insert loop. Bought a beat up one and seems to do the trick for putting a pedal in a insert loop.

A buffer with a variable level should more or less equal a clean boost that is on and turned down to or below unity, right? The only thing a buffer does (or is supposed to do) is turn the signal into low impedance, which virtually all pedals do when engaged. And if they´re not true bypass even when not engaged, for that matter.

Are you looking for a true level control (just dB), or something that controls the impedance of the signal going out?

Good call, the added brightness he´s experiencing probably is due to too efficient buffering. The impedance is too low to get the treble rolled off like before, so it might not be a level issue.

I took it as he was looking for variable impedence.

Yeah, that is what I think he wants when he says he wants to control the brightness, but control over the level and control over the impedance are 2 different things. A simple level control wont't do anything about the brightness that is set by rest of the circuit.

The Radial Dragster is supposed to allow you to adjust the impedance to "correct" for the tone introduced by various buffers.

To narrow is down a bit, the Cameron CCV has an insert loop and it works perfectly with a Boss SE-50 effects unit. When I use other pedals, they are too dark. I’ve tried using the MXR buffer, the Empress buffer and they don’t help. So far the best unit I’ve used is a Suhr mini mix2... but it increases the signal a lot. When I use it, and insert the cables into the loop, the volume jumps. I’ve asked Suhr if there is some way to add an output level pot, but they didn’t want to help. So I did a search for an adjustable line buffer and there really isn’t anything that helps my issue.

I did try the Kleinulator, but it didn’t really help. It was cool, but just not what I wanted.

Maybe the GLab Amp Loop Adapter. I think it allows for controlling the send and return levels of a loop if the amp itself doesn't have controls for that.

Maybe this
