Does John Suhr make a Les Paul ?

Not as of yet. John has spoke of the idea of creating a Suhr single-cut for the past 3-4 years. Last I heard, it was in the works. I believe he made a comment once about it, saying that it would have to be better than an LP or at least be able to stand on it's own without just merely being an LP copy......not going word for word, but this is how I took it. I'm sure he's done some prototypes. Don't be surprised though, just judging by his recent silence on the matter, that he might have abandoned the project all together? Maybe he'll chime in here?

Guess Gibson spies & Henry would take offense but PRS seems to get it off ...

Does Suhr actually make guitars or assemble them?

Seriously? I don't know this for a fact but would swear that they do everything from scratch, including the CNC work based on some discussions I've had with others in the MI business.

In-house CNC, so yeah, he rolls his own for sure...unlike a few other high end brands (Lull, Sadowksi, Nash, etc.)

Suhr builds everything...the old Pensa-Suhr guitars used outsourced parts IIRC and John built some guitars from Schecter/Anderson parts for Frampton

cool... was not sure how they were doing things over there... good to know

Steve Smith is a CNC master. John is always innovating but I doubt he will come out with a single cut. I bet he does not want the stigma that would be attached to it. He does not need to do a Les Paul type. He is plenty successful.

He's a smoking drummer too. Where does he find the time?
I did not know the drummer Steve Smith was one and the same that started Suhr with John.

Just my poor sense of humor at work. It's always at work.

I think the single cut will happen at some point, the impression that I've gotten was just that they are so busy with what's going on with current guitars that there just hasn't been time and/or the production capacity or whatever to devote to a single cut design- yet. I know he really wants to do it and has some great ideas- he loves Leslie West, ZZ Top, Les Paul Juniors, and the whole Les Paul thing in general, so it only makes sense he'd do one!

And they definitely do everything in-house- the factory is insane. A truly amazing place. A testament to how to run a biz and build it successfully, and do it in the USA.

Awesome ! Thanks Pete ...

Historic CS LP's are nice but John's version of a LP would prolly be the Ultimate. :inlove:

If he does come out with one I bet he will introduce it as a limited run. I would imagine it would be in the high 4 price range maybe into 5k.

I heard Gibson can make a decent Les Paul or two ;)
Gibson? Is that some sort of boutique company? What's the founder's name and which brand did he branch off of?
