no

absolutely not.

her voice is like nails down a chalkboard at the end of a chalkboard hallway.

she's the WORST singer i've ever seen live, period. every note she tries to sings is like an anti note of the note shes' trying to sing. if you've not seen her live, reserve your comments until you do.

yeah, anyone can sound great in a studio these days.

period.

imho.

Meh... I happen to like the new STUDIO album. Your rant did nothing to change that. But hey... if it made you feel good then at least it was of value to someone. :poke:

meh....but you asked "doesn't anyone else....etc etc etc" and i gave reasons why i disagreed. i'm sure im not the only guitar player that has seen her live and thinks that she doesn't cut it live (like just about most of these "marketable face" pop stars). it wasn't a rant. just an opinion. i've heard the new studio album, i dont think as highly of it as you do vocally, no big deal, nothing to get hurt feelings over. i mean, you didn't expect EVERYONE to come in here and suck off and stroke the balls of the new Ev album, did you?

that being said, there's some killer grooves, and riffs on the new album, and I THINK if sung by a different performer it would be much easier on MY ears. it will sell a ton, that's for sure. there's certainly a market for this type of music, i'm just not part of that demographic. some people feel that way about axl, jon davis, maynard, corey taylor, randy blythe, etc. so it's all perspective i guess.
I will openly tell you though, IMHO My Immortal one of the most powerful songs written in the past 10 years in the top 40 rock genre...but hey, wtf do i know?

i'm not arguing dude, just giving my honest opinion..maybe she's better live than she used to be when i saw her 8 years ago...maybe not...maybe if you go check it out, you'll think she stinks live too...or, maybe you'll think her voice is the standard that perfect pitch should be judged by.

I've never understood the appeal of this group... I mean, I get it with most other popular music, but not Evanescense. Even my nutty religious mother listens to them, despite the whole tamed gothic imagery thing going on.

I've seen them live 4 times, 3 times for Fallen (even the show in Chicago two days before Fallen came out), once for Open Door, and she was great every time, not at all off key. So I've got to disagree with you.

The new album is fantastic, definitely more growth. I see them in Chicago again on the 22nd, so I'll let you know how the nails are doing. :D

BTW, the new album has 4.5/5 stars on iTunes, out of 2200+ reviews, and those are from real people. Sure, they're probably 90% idiots, but at least they're real.

Maybe try Epica...

I would much rather listen to Stream of Passion or any of the female fronted Aryeon stuff than Evanescence, but I can see their appeal to the masses.

what year(s) was/were those shows you saw her?

im thinking i musta caught a pre-autotune live performance integration show?

i really dug the first album. not so much the second. seemed obvious to me that they had lost a big part of the heavy songwriting when the original guitarist left. perhaps that has changed now, gonna have to check it out!

If I want to hear a female fronted rock band... I'll just go with some Guano Apes..

2003, two days before their album came out. Then again a few months later. Then again in 2004, and 2006. No Autotune; that shit is pretty obvious live. Perhaps she has off nights like anyone may, but not when I saw them.

Delain sounds great! Still tuned down, but the guitar is more clear and detailed sounding IMHO.

I guess the guitarist used a different rig rather than a pile of Rectifiers then EQ'ing the shit out of them in Pro Tools.

sigd

haha thanks!

I read about his guitar rig & recording process in a guitar magazine interview from a few years back.

I saw them when they were touring supporting the release of Fallen (the tour was with Breaking Benjamin and Seether, both put on fantastic shows as well) and they were absolutely fantastic. No auto-tune whatsoever, like the other dude mentioned it's pretty easy to hear in a live setting and she does a lot of odd "strained" stuff with her vocals live mid-song that if they were auto-tuned would be absolutely obvious!  Maybe you saw them on a bad night, but when I saw them everyone in the band was amazing.

I picked up the CD yesterday and it's pretty solid throughout.
very nice production, the voice performance are really good actually (mind you only after one listen)

if you can tell me that the single "what you want" is the weakest song on the cd, i will buy it and give it a shot. i love chick singers.

i was at nrg when she was tracking vocals for the first record. talk about hours upon hours of tuning vocal tracks.

If you can do without the goth style, Halestorm kicks ass!

I saw them play live by accident at the Triumph brewery in New Hope P.A.
They sound pretty good live and that chick has a soulful voice kinda reminds me of cross between Joan Jett with the gibsons and all but dresses like Pat Benatar with a slightly heavier hard rock sound ..
I dig them

I have had to see Evanescence live she wasnt that bad my girl friend listens to them..
IMO Maria Brinks from In This Moment Kills her vocally live...

It pretty much is! That's why I like the new album so much. Because usually when you hear the first single, the album is all downhill from here. Not in this case. There are MUCH stronger songs on the new album. Still diggin it!

On the other hand... I bought the last Candlebox album (2008) on the recommendation of some here that it was a lot like the first (which kicked ass). Picked it up yesterday and so far it mostly bores me to tears.

I love Simone! But I always find Epica's material "lacking". Not a fan of the cookie monster vocals that the guy put on there, and very few of their songs do much for me. Her best work thus far to my ears was done with Kamelot (The Haunting) and Primal Fear (Everytime It Rains).
