My wife and I were going to go see Motley, Poison and Def Leppard when they came through town and it's the same thing.
That is how I am with KISS. Obviously, I want to see the four original members up there. I will say this though. The last two times I've seen them (2016 and 2019), it was the loudest, best-sounding, fun KISS shows I've been to, so goes to show it is good to be open minded.
I really am torn with this whole thing with these bands. There is a part of me that wants it to be "THE" show, with all of the memories you remember. I saw Maiden last year and in my mind I was picturing myself in this arena with smoke, the smell of pot everywhere, and loud as hell. Obviously in 2019, it was at a reasonable volume, no smoke, and people with paper trays of soft pretzels, nachos, and a craft beer that cost $18. Not what I was expecting but was a good show.
On the other hand, all of these bands I grew up listening to could have said "F this", retired in the 90s and just let new music take over. I'm glad they didn't. I realize they have to be exhausted doing all of these shows and has to take a toll on their health obviously. Over the past few years I've been able to see KISS, Maiden, Preist, Metallica, Alice Cooper, etc. There have been some great shows.
I tell you though, some of the most fun shows have been tribute bands. My best friend and I have seen Brit Floyd three times and rocked. MacSabbath (dress up as McDonald's characters and so Black Sabbath music) were amazing. We were at Alorosa Villa right up front, and there were people headbanging, doing punk dances, etc. and everyone high fiving, jamming together, etc. THAT was a show!!
