This whole entire thing is my fault. I'm the one responsible for the amp being mailed in this condition. After I saw this post this morning I immediately sent Gray a PM trying to explain everything. I will explain everything to you guys as well.
Let me start this off by saying I've been deployed during this whole process and therefore I have not been home to inspect everything/pack the amplifier myself. I had my girlfriend Holly take care of all of this for me. I bought this amp off of a guy about a month ago. He doesn't post here on RT. I didn't see any pics of the box it came in or how it was packed or anything. Holly (my girlfriend) told me it got there just fine so I didn't think anything of the packing job. Again I didn't see it. So some shit came up and I had to get rid of it. I saw Gray's post in the classifieds so I hit him up and we made a deal. I told Holly to pack it up exactly how it was packed when she had received it. Believe it or not she ended up putting extra peanuts into the box (I just found that out today). I assumed, without even seeing how this guy packed it, that he had done a good job. I never specifically asked Holly how it was packed. That was my fault for the poor communication with her in how bad the packing job actually was. Had I been home I would have made sure it was packed correctly. Also the amp was fully insured for the amount that Gray had paid for it. Take it for what it is, I apologized to Gray and have tried to explain myself as best as I could. I've learned not to have Holly be responsible for packing my music gear. If you guys want to continue to roast me on this thread, that's fine. It's not Holly's fault, it's mine.

Chris

Whenever I sell something to someone I always take pictures of the item in different stages of the packing and send them to the buyer for suggestions/approval, on big $ items I buy I usually ask for the same thing and this time I didn't.

That's actually a pretty good idea, I will definitely keep that in mind.

The only thing worse than Fedex's service is their customer service. If I buy something, I make sure its not sent out via Fedex.

I prefer FedEx over UPS by a wide margin. YMMV.

Opposite for me. I have received two destroyed amps via FedEx and I've had very good luck shipping and receiving through UPS. Although, I think this is random/luck as I can't see either of them handling packages more carefully than the other and it is always up to the individual handling your package.

I hear you Drew. I used to use UPS exclusively until about 6 months ago. My experience has been, when receiving items, boxes have looked to be in better shape coming from FedEx vs. UPS, but that could just be a short-term trend.

FedEx is definitely better for me shipping internationally, as the Customs brokerage fee is baked into the shipping cost I pay upfront, which buyers like.

THIS is BULLSHIT!  I kid...but I just sold a Recto, and shipped it...double bubble wrapped it with popcorn 4" all the way around ant FEDEX smashed the headshell....Fortunately the buyer said the amp works great....but I refunded him $322 for a new Headshell from Mesa. Still waitin(2weeks now) on my claim for the $322. Had it insured fully, but they are taking their merry sweet ass time.

That's nothing. I received my destroyed amp from FedEx on June 12th... :scared:

Main issue I have with UPS is that they will drop a Direct Signature package on my porch to sit all day with no sig. Fed Ex has never done that.

David, UPS did this to me once as well. Not on the front step though. They decided to trespass on my property while I was not home and left it on my back deck in direct sunlight for 6 hours on a day when it was 35 degrees celsius and the relative humidity was about 90%! MORONS!

UPS has left guns and ammo on my front doorstep in the past. I quit using them once that happened.

I didn't realize that UPS drivers were now carrying sidearms.....

:hys:

But yeah, that's some scary stuff. What if some kids had come across that?! :gethim:

I had a Mesa Mark III shipped to me in a box. That was it, an amp head with a box in it. No bubblewrap or peanuts. I was amazed when it worked.
I got one better then this! I see your box and raise it with.......
Had some jackass take cardboard...*sigh*.....
and WRAP IT AROUND THE AMP and tape it up!
NO PADDING what so ever....no box....just a cardboard wrapped amp!!!
Funny thing? It was fine.
No broken tubes....no cracks in the headshell....I was AMAZED!!
Guy used to be a member here but havent seen him post in YEARS.

That wet cardboard was .7 ply thickness and regulation strength, butt hole! :gethim: And the dirty underwear I wrapped the tubes in were more than adequate.
