never understood why not ?
its not like they are ever going to be collectable , marshall literally made a kazillion of them if every member on this forum had one modded it wouldnt even use 1 % of all the 2203 that were made
and.... there is no way a stock marshall 2203 from any era and an od 1 can get close to the gain or tone of something like a fortin cali or a cameron jose or aldrich or friedman or golub etc ....
I have made direct comparisons and the 2203/2204 is a fine amp with great tones that can nail classic marshall tones and if thats what you want then keep it that way , but if you want modded tones they are a great platform for modding so put some bullet holes in it and four extra preamp tubes and a million switches labelled scorch incinerate and nukem......
getting cork sniffy over a 2203 pleeeease....![]()
If its not about collectability then please enlighten us and tell us what it is about and in case you arent aware something like the cali mod or golub lead mod is NOT available as a production amp its a modification option only
people want their marshalls modded for very good reasons ,they sound great and are very capable tools for making music
take a look at doug aldrich rig he is using late seventies 2203 marshalls which have been modded by martin golub and john suhr
people like aldrich are getting their amps modded because its about tailoring the amp to suit an individuals needs and musical requirements that can never be met by any production amp
so come on tell us why we shouldnt mod them PLEASE im dying to know

Im mean after all ... this is RIGTALK FOR FUCKS SAKE,,,,,, take a look around and see how many threads there are that are dedicated to modded marshalls also take a look at forums like mark camerons forum or racksystems or FJA that are dedicated either partially or wholly to modding marshalls
seriously.. coming to rigtalk and telling people not to mod their marshalls is a bit like a klu klux clan member going to a nelson mandela convention in full ceremonial white pointy hat whilst brandishing a burning cross and shouting out stop being fucking black....
