never understood a 2203 gettn modded....plenty other amps that do the MOD sound thing.....2203 and a OD1 & your set

never understood why not ?
its not like they are ever going to be collectable , marshall literally made a kazillion of them if every member on this forum had one modded it wouldnt even use 1 % of all the 2203 that were made
and.... there is no way a stock marshall 2203 from any era and an od 1 can get close to the gain or tone of something like a fortin cali or a cameron jose or aldrich or friedman or golub etc ....
I have made direct comparisons and the 2203/2204 is a fine amp with great tones that can nail classic marshall tones and if thats what you want then keep it that way , but if you want modded tones they are a great platform for modding so put some bullet holes in it and four extra preamp tubes and a million switches labelled scorch incinerate and nukem......

getting cork sniffy over a 2203 pleeeease....
its not about collectability, and u just answered ur own question, buy a fortin if u need a fortin sound...... no cork sniffin here mate not interested in that

If its not about collectability then please enlighten us and tell us what it is about and in case you arent aware something like the cali mod or golub lead mod is NOT available as a production amp its a modification option only
people want their marshalls modded for very good reasons ,they sound great and are very capable tools for making music
take a look at doug aldrich rig he is using late seventies 2203 marshalls which have been modded by martin golub and john suhr
people like aldrich are getting their amps modded because its about tailoring the amp to suit an individuals needs and musical requirements that can never be met by any production amp

so come on tell us why we shouldnt mod them PLEASE im dying to know  like steve k said maybe this is a shit stirring thread ??
Im mean after all ... this is RIGTALK FOR FUCKS SAKE,,,,,, take a look around and see how many threads there are that are dedicated to modded marshalls also take a look at forums like mark camerons forum or racksystems or FJA that are dedicated either partially or wholly to modding marshalls

seriously.. coming to rigtalk and telling people not to mod their marshalls is a bit like a klu klux clan member going to a nelson mandela convention in full ceremonial white pointy hat whilst brandishing a burning cross and shouting out stop being fucking black....

A forum full of lemmings isn't very fun either, although I do get what you are saying.

Never been happy with a stock 2203 and an OD. Always wanted more. I say whatever makes you happy. It is a simple, and brilliant base circuit and never hard to go back should you want to. Mod the shit out of them, that's my vote. Oh and Nedo, you are responsible for more gutted 2203s than anyone, how dare you!

nice troll thread.

But IMO, theyre just amps and nothing more. Do what you want with them

what are you so mad about bro.......? jus hang and chat its about silly amps not world issues... its all good...dint want an argument.....too mellow for all that

My favorite mod is an OD in front, and they can be changed around, eq'd differently, etc., so they're flexible. But I'd probably mod my 2204 that's already fairly beaten up if I had the skills of Vlad, Knucklefux, etc., so I could keep making changes or reverse it if ever desired.

what if fender never modded RCA tube application schems? what if marshall never modded fenders? what if mike soldano never modded marshalls? what if peavey never ripped off Mike? What if bugera never ripped off peavey. (ok I take that one back. Bugera would never ripp off anyone)

Not really the same situation....they were not taking an existing item then modifying it and putting the same item out for sale. At least they were developing their own chassis/ headshells etc.

I think in this day and age its much easier to get a kit and make it the way you want. When I was starting out, all we had around were old Superlead and some JMP stuff to make work. Changing a component here and there for tweaks doesnt bother me. But when I see JMP's with extra holes drilled on the front and back for extra channels, boosts, stick on labels and such...I dunno it just looks cheap to me.

To each their own I guess. The only good Marshall is a modded one! :)

One thing i'll add on this subject....

You'll see a lot of modded JCM800's and JMP's here in the UK, simply because you can buy old Marshalls here for half the price or less than what a kit would cost. I have suggested kits/clones many times to my customers, to avoid having to drill holes in old amps but since everyone here can score old Marshalls for cheap, they always go that route.

I understand that in the USA, a kit probably costs similar price or less than an older Marshall. So in that case, a high quality clone/kit like a MetroAmp is a better idea IMO.

It's mad how a Marshall clone kit, here in the UK, costs double the price of the real thing haha

actually when one comes my way I usually try to talk them out of any new holes. I make most off my mods reversable. Leave the parts clipped but pushed over a little bit (still in there)

How about Randall Smith with the Fender Princeton? I hate to say it but he modded and sold those. He quit using the Princeton only because they were getting to hard too find and too expensive.

Well, it's long ago already, that I've rebuilt some 2203's to those Steamhammer-Beasts, it's been in the mid of the 90's

No, not Marshalls, he swapped the Larry logos for Bugera.

I don't know, what problem he does have with me and I really can't remember, that I've been stepping on his feet once in the past...
... only he knows, by what reason he's doing this BS - and it's not the 1-st time, that he did it
