Interesting question…
I would say “no”, but I would not be upset if certain sub-forums of Off Topic went away (again) forever. It’s a guitar/gear forum; there’s any number of places people with extreme viewpoints on politics, religion, race, immigration, etc., can interact. Is the moderation on those sites so extreme that people flock here? If so, that’s telling. I suspect that it generates enough traffic that the associated profits offset the obvious disconnect of topics for a “guitar” forum. Off Topic does one thing exceedingly well - it allows people (typically over time) to show their true colors. I use that to decide who I choose to interact with in the “main” forum. There are a number of items I would have purchased from the classifieds but chose not to based on “knowing” a person from their Off Topic persona. I’m sure that doesn’t mean anything to anyone but me, but i place some priority on the intrinsic value of a person. I may be alone on that one. I don’t care…

I have a reasonable history of posting in the main forums in years past. There were some really cool people that helped me get back into guitar, build some rigs and do the “Weekend Warrior” thing for a few years. I built some relationships (if a few cross-country phone calls are “relationships”) and felt like there was camaraderie. Sure, there was BS (F’n Cameron threads, Brad King, etc.), but not at the current OT level. I still focus on the main forum content, but it’s nowhere near what it used to be and I don’t post much. To be fair, with a lack of time and some hand/arm nerve issues (multiple surgeries, both arms), I’m nowhere near the guitar player I was. And I was mediocre at best 😆. I don’t have anything exotic, but I have some great gear and more equipment than my skills warrant.

Long story short, I read Off Topic General for the laughs and to see different perspectives. I rarely post, and when I do, it’s after sipping some 12 year old single malt (case in point). Don’t judge me - long, fucking day…

Apologies for the stupid long “The-Kid” like post, but in my defense, it’s reasonably coherent, more than 95% grammatically correct and damn-near everything was spelled correctly 😆

It’s amazing, really. The number of people who hate it here, hate most of the members here and voice that often....but here they are, day after day. A verbal type of self-flagelation?

Don't pretend like you know what you're talking about, I love 99% of the members here. There are a few scumbags who try their best to ruin everything for everyone and you're the person who walks into the middle of the conversation taking issue with the people who have a problem with it.

Amazing how so many of y'all never post in the main. Many just sign up and straight to OTC to argue. Mostly about things y'all have no control over and many who have no clue about what they're referring to. It's pretty funny to see some of the "banter," but a few of you have ruined this place with your outright stupidity. Which wouldn't be so bad, if you actually played the guitar.
Are you menstrual?
