Have at 'er. If you want a great high gain amp that's UNIQUE from all the others, which amp would be the choice of the general RT populous? Money's not a consideration...just wondering.

Peace,
V.

Mako Mak4 + bigass tube power amp = best of both worlds.

The entire platform or just the caveman chug chug channel?

I don't see anything really unique about the Herbert seeing how everybody and their brother has or has had one :dunno:

Having had both the Mak4 and a Herbert side by side. You can't go wrong with either. I'd probably pick the Herbert as my favorite of the two, because I was left wanting more low-end out of the Dorado channel of the Mak4. I'd love to try the actual Dorado head or Mak2 head though.

So far, so good... Thanks for the input. As for what it is I am looking for - everything from heavier crunch to serious chugga chugga.

Thanks!
V.

The Dorado has it's own thing going on, but the Herbert does too, and it's more versatile. The Dorado's voicing stands out as more unique between the two.

THIS is the info I am looking for. How's the low end on the Dorado??

Massive and tight.

 Thank you... That's +1 for Dorado thus far... Next!

Both are superb amps.

Love the sound of the Dorado. Don't like the Diezel tone in general, though I prefer the Herbie to the VH4 by A LOT.

BUT....I would take the Makoplex over the Dorado

If I was scrictly a bedroom player I might choose the Herbert bc the tone of it has that "produced" quality to it as if you are hearing a really badass recording of what you're playing while you're playing....I know it sounds weird but, that's the best way to describe it.

It's also more versatile than the Dorado.

However, if I were playing in a band or in jamming situations I'd pick the Dorado 10 out of 10 times.....I just didn't like the way the Herbert sat in the mix at all for me....

The low end on both of these amps are more than anyone would EVER need :) However, I speak solely of the Mako Dorado/Diezel Herbert....I have no experience with the Mak4 but, I will tell you the Mak-2 White (Dorado Based) left me wanting more low end thunder....the single channel Dorado, definitely not :)

That's a great description of the Diezel tone. I think the ones that love it love it because it sounds so "clean" and produced, and the ones that hate it do it because they feel somehow disconnected when they play it live, even though these amps are a sound engineer's dream. When mic'ed, live or in the studio, they sound perfect, like a hot rod Marshall that's been eq'd by a world class engineer.

Makoplex just RULES....period.

This is truth.

If I think back on ALL the amps I have owned, the Makoplex is one of a small handfull that I really wish I still had.

:lame: I've said it before, I'll say it again... Curmudgeon. You. Exemplary thereof.

EOM,
V.

PS - did you know that some earthworms are autosexual hermaphrodites? Which means, in all seriousness, they can fuck themselves? Take note.
