A deal with the owner of these two fine amps has gone through, good times.

The Jose is a 1979 Super Lead. Mod performed in the mid-80's, and is one of only two I've heard of in Australia.

The Dookie donor amp is some sort of Plexi clone Martin modded in the 2000's. Marstran transformers, quality construction. All controls go to 11, so maybe it's ex-Tufnel backline.

Both sound fantastic, and really can you ever have too many Marshalls? We'll get around to doing a video with both at some point, but for now it's just eye candy.

The seller also has a sweet 1969 Super Lead he's thinking of letting go, and it's one of the finest I've ever heard. Very early metal panel, I believe Sept 69... drool.

Really? All the Aldrich mods I had blew away the couple Golubs I had. Golubs are always too loose on the bottom
I had the white hs one, 78 SLP that was supposedly one of Mark's first Aldrich mods. The 79 Golub Lead mod I had next to it, sounded almost identical BUT you are correct in the tightness difference; that was the only difference. Clarity, feel everything else was darn near idendical. I ran I little eq pedal in front to tighten it up.

Thanks guys... I knew there would be no judgement or interventions here, just addiction-like encouragement.

Yeah the Golub isn't super tight. The lows aren't rolled off in the preamp as aggressively as many other mods it seems. However it really works well with thinner sounding axes like super strats, and LP juniors as per you-know-who.

I don't know much about the Aldrich mod. Anyone know if has a 2203-like preamp architecture, or does it have an additional gain stage and/or diode clipping going on?

Dookie sounds awesome mate! Will be keen to hear how the Jose sounds next to it
